Default 99 civic Si, with JDM D15 engine problem

Before anyone tears me a new one, I tried searching, but the search engine here either isn't very good, or my problem hasn't been discussed before.

Long story:
I've never worked on a Honda before and know very little specifically about them. Though I've worked on a bunch of other cars and am skilled enough with a wrench. Now, my frinds cousin dropped off his civic at my house and asked me to swap the engine. It started with a very seized D16Y8 with air injection. I got him a JDM D15** and put it in. I had to swap manifolds because the D15 manifold was different in a few ways. Got everything hooked up and found that I had a vacuum leak. So I removed the manifold and replaced the gasket. Start it again and still it's leaking. Again remove the manifold and find out that the D16 has holes in it for air injection. And I'm using the 99 PCM on this new engine since the 0.1L difference in displacement didn't strike me as anything worth worrying about. So I discovered that the heads on the D15 don't have room for the D16Y8 manifold gasket with air injection and that's the source of all my problems.

Short story:
Since the head on the D15 can't accommodate air injection, can I just JB weld the air injection holes shut without any problems? Again 99 PCM, will it throw codes if I do this?

And if that's not possible, what alternative do I have?

Need help asap as I really want this car out of my garage.

Thanks.

Just put the D15b manifold on and do it the right way. You have to convert the IACV to 2 wire I belive and some other stuff not that serious....

wouldnt there be a OBD 1/2 issue with the use of that motor?

Wow this place is fast, thanks.

The problem with the manifold is that it has a different fuel rail (not too big of a problem), vacuum routing is different (could figure that out), it has an EGR valve (which I could leave disconnected or remove and block the port), there's a solenoid on the D16Y8 fuel rail that's not on the D15 (could add it), and that's pretty much it. The MAP, TPS and IACV are identcal between the two engines. So swapping the manifold isn't a problem. But again, will I get a code thrown if I don't have air injection (with either manifold)?

Everything can be rewired and work.

Do you have emissions? If not just put the D15B manifold back on, convert everything you just said and get a conversion harness and run a P28 ECU.

Also why would an SI have a Y8 in it to begin with?

wasn't an SI, probably and Ex. and what ECU are you using?

seems like the common sense solution would be to use EVERYTHING from the new motor w/ the correct ECU/harness

youll notice the poster is from canada.

In canada, their Si is equivalent to what we call an Ex here in the states. So yes, his car is an Si.

To the OP, Youre putting a OBD1 motor in a OBD2 car, correct? so youve already converted the wiring harness? youll need to get an adapter harness for the ECU and buy a p28 computer to avoid throwing codes for knock sensor and secondary o2. (the d15 only has 1 o2 sensor where as the y8 had two)

what he said and...

Use that Y8 intake manafold, it will work. your missing somthing small. i just did this "mini me" **** last month. the Y8 IM is WAY easier then using the d15 IM.
the harness will not need much work at all, at the dizzy you just have to color match, cuz the obd1 2 plugs are diffferent. you can use the orginal ecu, the p2e or somthing like it. it will run just fine. not the best but its very close, ive seen the maps before, there not far off. PM me if you got any other Qs

The original engine only has 1 O2 sensor, and the import engine has a knock sensor with the same plug as the D16Y8 engine. As for converting the harness, I used the D16 disty and planned on using the D16 intake manifold, so that way I could keep the same harness and pcm. Everything is fine, and the engine runs for a while without throwing a code, the problem is that it's leaking where the air injection is, causing a slightly higher idle, and once the pcm realizes that the leak is there, the idle gets completely f'd up. To be honest, I think it's just easier if I take the damn engine out again, return it, and get the right engine. I'm really sick of seeing this car at this point.

Out of curiousity, is there any demand for any of the D16Y8 engine parts? Like the head or intake or anything else that's stock on that engine? Because hopefully by tomorrow this car will be gone and I'll have a spare engine in my driveway.

Thanks for all the help.
