99 civic radio swap oem
So some *** clown decided to break into my car and steal my radio faceplate, amp, and roof rack... who steals a roof rack... well replacing the faceplate through sony will cost more than the radio itself did and I cant find a used replacement. For now I was going to put the stock radio tuner back in but dont want to lose the use of a cdplayer not in the trunk and aux/usb input.
I know that people swap out other year and model oem radios all the time but i cant seem to work google atm.
Does anyone know of a single din oem honda radio with cd player and aux in? or possibly one that is cd/mp3 player or rca in or something of the like? Im going to put it into my 99 civic lx so an easy swap would also be a benefit.
As always any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

Might be easier to get an aftermarket radio for like 100 bucks with those features.
Radios vary by year like 96-98 were the same but 99-00 were different, if you try another OEM radio you will be taking a chance the harness does not match.

the problem with an aftermarket radio is it will just get stolen again. I dont have theft on my insurance and I already have half of a really good after market radio. I dont mind messing with wiring for a diferrent harness and I have seen people put crv radios in there. I was just wondering if anyone knew an oem one with cdpayer and aux in that was single din since the likelihood of that being stolen is lower.

Re: 99 civic radio swap oem
lol have an ak in the closet. Didnt hear them break in. Car was also parked under a streetlight, 10ft outside my door, on the busiest/best lit part of the apartment complex. Prob didnt take them more than five minutes, which is why they gave up trying to get the rest of the radio.
Need to invest in an alarm if/when I get another aftermarket radio. I was just looking for something to pass the time before I get my BA. My stock set up is the am/fm tuner with a changer in the trunk which is a huge pita. Was thinking of getting the stock cdplayer from the 99 and putting a pie aux in on it. But that would cost as much as a new radio so kinda pointless. Might just put the aux in on my current one a loose the changer, but since they got my ipod and thatll cost $50 on top of another $150 for the ipod, it wont be anytime soon for that.

I agree with you that you need to get the alarm system figured out first because who is to say they wont steal anything else out of your car.

Wait, get an aftermarket with a removable face plate, and hide it in the car, thieves will not bother looking for it and taking a chance of wasting time.
No offense but don't be lazy it takes 10 secs to hide a faceplate, I do it all the time.

Read a little better next time... someone else already commented on trying to find a used faceplate on ebay. It should be known that I had a removable one.
Also, Does anyone know if such an oem radio exists? I found a few that were way to expensive, looking for a cheap oem that wont be stolen and last me through living in shithole apartments while finishing college.

I don't believe there is any OEM radio that has the features you are looking for. Definitely not at your price point. Too bad they don't make the slide out units that they had way back in the day. Then you could take the whole radio with you. Benzi Boxes we used to call them.

Re: 99 civic radio swap oem
That sounds pretty sweet. Wouldnt that be a pain for your rca's and plugs? maybe its like a hotswap on a comp tower where it plugs into a board. Certainly would have saved me a lot of headache.
Yea thats the conclusion I was coming to. I think I may just lose the cd changer and put in an aux adapter then. Thanks.

x2 not gonna find a oem head unit that will allow you to plug in rca's, or that will have a aux input.... go to crutchfield, they have some decent kenwoods that have rca;s aux, and ipod control for just under $100, or try find a used faceplate... the money you spend finding a oem player, and trying to rig up an aux or rca outs will be about the same a a new one. i dont think thieves steal faceplates cause its aftermarket, cause if stock radios had faceplates they would take them too... i think its cause they are not gonna leave without taking anything, and a faceplate is easy.(they cant do anything with it) but they obviously get a sick pleasure out of ****ing someones life up!

Re: 99 civic radio swap oem
My exact thought on the faceplate thing. Thieves suck. I worked very hard for my stuff.
Im gonna pass on a new headunit for now because to get full use out of it I would also have to replace my nice amp that goes for like $350 used, being in school and not having a job atm I just cant afford $500 to get a h/u amp and ipod again. I had only had the stuff a few months too.
I have seen these
http://www.amazon.com/PIE-HON98-AUX-.../dp/B000CKBLBU
I think I will just go that route some time in the future when I replace the ipod. Set the rca to feed into the storage bin under the radio. Dont like that I will loose cd functionality but not a huge problem when I have over 100gb of storage.

Re: 99 civic radio swap oem
Those PIE HON-AUX units are great, I have one in my 92 EH3 running from my OEM Gathers unit cd changer port to my Sirius unit, OEM look, but Gathers units sound better than my aftermarket Alpine decks.
Have you looked into a Gathers unit? The only catch is using a FM expander to pickup all the frequencies here in the US. They are an option to maintaining OEM look, but getting a much better quality HU. I have no complaints with any of the Gathers units I have used, except no RCA, but that can be worked around at no sacrifice to sound quality.

Plus I assume you have an ipod, just rip all your cd's you do not need the changer anyway.

I will have one again in the next year probably. Unfortunately it was sitting in my glovebox right next to the faceplate so i will have to buy another.

Haha they jacked just the faceplate. I just got a pretty sick JVC from wal mart with cd/mp3, usb, aux in and a remote for 70.
