99-00 Conversion on a 96-98: How-To
The other day I decided to start my 99-00 conversion, and I figured I might as well post up on H-T how to do it, and the problems encountered along the way.
I started with this:
The front end was messed up thanks to a jackknob in a mirage pulling out in front of me, and the "OOPS!" was kinda, um, my fault
Anyways, you have to take off every body panel on the front end; Hood, bumper, fenders, headlights, grill, so your car looks like this:
(I kept the hood on for the time being, because if it started to rain I would have some protection for the engine
Then put the fenders on first, then the bumper, then the lights, then the hood, and finally the grill. Now for everyone the does not know the answer to "Do I need the radiator suuport?" here is the answer.
You don't NEED the support, but if you want it done 100% correct, you will want it.
Otherwise, you will have this:
You can just drill holes into the metal to fix it, or you could leave it, for the rest of the bolts and the grill pretty much hold up the bumper anyways.
Also, on the bumper right to the side closest to the grill, you have to dremel a small piece off of it to get it to fit correctly. But nothing too major though.

Now, after getting the hood on, i noticed some fitment issues. I don not know if it has to do with the CF hood, or iff the body lines are messed up from the accident i was in. I did have to throw out the passenger side headlight support because it was trashed.

It took about 4 hours for me to do, but if i had to do it agan it would probably be a lot quicker that that

EDIT- Yes, my car looks like a 4x4 right now, so no comments on that, or the fact that my car is 3 different colors. Those problems will be fixed in a couple weeks.

Damn i didn't know you can use 96-98 radiator support!...

damn, you got taxed. should've got an SI grill for $50. and there's other **** you could've gotten for cheap. look good though.

i didnt pay a dime for it technically, insuarnce paid for it. and the money i saved for labor because i did it myself, i bought the SI rims with, and i still have $400 left over.

looks nice enough to go plain w/o paint.. almost.
**** that reminds me. There is an owner of a 02 mustang that works at a grocery stor near me, so i see that car often. He has a pretty tacky body kit 'installed' (looks like its held together with caulk) and NOT painted. Mind his car is black, with white/grey/silver body crap tacked on. Its been that way for a month. Next time i see it im leaving a note!

I'm going to do a frontconversion myself too this week. Already got the bumper, hood (both from a coupe in the same color), EK9 headlights, standard grille, but still missing the fenders, but they will be in today @ the dealer! The parts here in the Netherlands are quite expensive though
