99-00 to 96-98 Civic front end
Hey H-T community, you cruel and unruly group of mechanically talented but not civil to new comer posters, I have a question for you.
Now I want the 96-98 front end on my 2000 Honda Civic DX.
That being said lets stay away from, 'Do your own research, start here FAQS - Frequently Asked (Tech) Questions' I have already been there, three different threads, two of which on H-T and also as far as the 6th page on Google search.
Everything is about a 99-00 front end on a 96-98 civic, not vice versa.
ALSO, don't ask me why I want this because its a personal preference.
With that out of the way I am just looking for confirmation on doing this conversion.
Based on knowledge/assumptions we can ASSUME this is possible based on the 99-00 to 96-98 conversion DIYs that are everywhere. Here the issues when doing that type of conversion.
1. Front bumper support - based on this DIY you will need to round the edges.
2. Upper front bumper support - same DIY states that you will need to modify the top of the bumper for fitment.
3. Radiator support - based on this DIY on H-T a sawzall and grinder will be needed.
Number 3 is the biggest issue I will have with doing this conversion because I do not have a sawzall or grinder readily available. BUT if those things are only needed to do the 96-98 to 99-00 front end then I will go ahead and buy the front end from password JDM and the remaining parts from the junkyard. (I really like the bumper molding)
Please provide helpful feedback or simply ignore this thread.

If it requires a hacksaw to do a 99-00 conversion on a 96-98, than I believe that would be NO.
Like I said, you do the opposite. Read the title of those DIY's and think about it.

The DIY that states a sawzall and grinder is needed says those tools are needed for the radiator mount. I of course imagine its because it got in the way. But with no photos to reference I don't know.
So when pulling the OEM diagram for the Front end Bulk head I see NO difference between the 1997 and the 2000 so I am just going to go ahead with the trial and error approach.
I will be going to junkyards to find a front bumper for a 96-98, if it fits than I'll spend the money to do the complete conversion.

why don't you just buy the front end, then try to fit it before buying the core support, then if you need the core support then you can go get it?

Reason I mentioned the front bulk heads because I am wondering why people in the DIYs had to use a sawzall and grinder. When the front bulk heads appear to be exactly the same.

it's the core supports that get changed in this conversion so it looks oem and EVERYTHING bolts up. the 96-98 front end will bolt up to the 99-00 front end, however there may be a few holes off etc. just buy the front end and stop being lazy and mess with it, or go to the junkyard and buy one and try it.
