About a month or two ago, my car started sputtering every time I'd accelerate. If I'd stay at a steady speed, it'd be fine. About an hour later it started sputtering extremely bad and completely died without starting back up. It not starting was apparently caused by "a wire popping out of the fuel regulator", but the sputtering continued after Raban Tire fixed that. I took it by Raban Tire again and the sputtering got better, but it still occurs pretty often, just not every time I accelerate. It'll occasionally idle, but not too often. It seems to just be getting worse. The sputtering also seems to get worse when I'm on the highway and I can't go over 5000 RPM without it sputtering, so I've been keeping low shifts.

When I leave the car in neutral and stand by the exhaust, I can hear the sputtering and it's pretty consistent.

The distributor was leaking oil, but is fixed now. Got a new fuel filter and all of the fuel injectors are working fine. Any suggestions on what could cause this?

The fuel pressure regulator has no wires.

Post the CEL codes and the last full ignition system tune up.

Bone stock Civic? What trim and engine?

Could be leaking head gasket pull your sparkplugs for evidence, Or springs on your valves could be getting old like mine were. After I replaced the springs the sputtering at idle stopped and the almost dying on hard acceleration stopped. No expert just sharing what was wrong with mine 94 civic DX, sounds like what it was doing.
