98 Civic.. new headers no air sensor
I just installed a new set of Edelbrock headers on my Honda.. Problem is, there is only a connector for the one air sensor below the manifold. There's no place for the "main" air sensor.. Car runs great but "check engine" light is on. Now I have to have it inspected.. Do I need to have it connected, or can I by pass the air sensor? Any recomendations?
thx

If it is you need to put a catalytic converter further downstream, similar to an EX/SI setup. Then you're set.

Re: 98 Civic.. new headers no air sensor (green00EX)
Sorry.. took a while to get back.. The car is a 97 Honda Civic HX.. it has a D16 Y5 SOHC motor... does that help? Called the local muffler shop and they can drill out the header and install a fitting on the headers.. Is this the best way to go? Now to pick up an O2 sensor, salvage year? dealer? local parts store? or other recomendations?
You guys are great, thanks for the response!!

just a heads up.. the o2 sensor the y5 motor is a 5wire sensor instead of the 4 wire found in most of the other civics... sorry to say this, but expect to pay upwards of 350-400 for a primary y5 o2 sensor

o2
i have a currently going post regarding the 1997 civic HX and the o2 sensor.
I picked up a OEM replacement Bosch brand o2 sensor from Pep-Boys for 79.99. You don't have your original o2 sensor? It might still work.
Sorry I don't have an answer for ya, I'm having problems of my own with the stock header.
Where did you get your header? I need a good header right now for my '97 HX, but one with an o2 sensor bung.
