Default Cleaned IACV because of horrible idle, didn't go away. White smoke from exhaust.

99 Civic DX stock motor (d16y7)
Okay i'm freaking out. Earlier today, I was with my automotive instructor on a non-school day (taking an automotive course at school) and we adjusted the ignition timing on my car (he had a timing light with him and we moved the dizzy but because my timing is way off belt-wise not much could be done) and he fiddled with the throttle screw. We didn't really have a good look at it after closing everything down because it's going to need to have its timing belt re-done which i'll do soon.

On my way home (first drive since adjustments), the idle started jumping up and down from 750 to 2,000 back and forth, so I cleaned the IACV. Just put everything back together and now my exhaust is giving off a bit of white smoke, could be something else instead of burning coolant, I changed my headgasket a few months ago already. The throttle seems much more tense than it was before....

Fix your mechanical timing. You don't have to change the entire belt to fix your timing. Fixing your mechanical timing takes like 15-20 minutes, tops.

Depending on how "way off" your mechanical timing is, it could explain the white smoke. I really hope your pistons didn't come up and give some tough love to your valves...

Well this is embarrassing, I guess I delusionally made this post out of exhaustion. White smoke was probably just the brake cleaner burning or humidity from the rain after re-installing the throttle body, didn't look like coolant at all more like a cold start smoke (which i'm not used to seeing in my tropical climate zone)

I tried doing that actually, and giving more tension to the belt many moons ago when I reinstalled my head, but since then my timing's been off and I haven't had any noticeable problems until now. Do I just simply put the distributor back, re-adjust the throttle screw to where it was prior to the modifications then reset the ECU? hmmph

--I have a new timing belt kit, i've had it for 6 months now and it's time to change the timing belt anyways so might as well do everything at one time.

bleed coolant, also clean and screw down the fast idle valve located under the throttle body. redo the belt and set base timing (on mine 95 i have to jump the cel connector to let the ecu know im setting the timing, ul prob have to do something similar).
