97 Civic starts then immediately stalls (with video) Need Help
I have a 97 Civic LX with type-R swap.
I had an issue last month where my timing belt somehow jumped a tooth. Before that, he replaced my fuel pump because he thought that was the issue.
After the guy fixed the timing issue, I now I have this issue where once I start my car when engine cold, the engine dies out. The only way to keep the engine running is I have to hold down the gas for about 4 minutes to warm the engine up. After that, it doesn't die out when I take my foot off acceleration pedal.
Here is a video of my problem:
Another issue I'm having is when I accelerate, my headlights get bright, once I take foot of acceleration pedal, the headlights go dim. This issue has to be connected because it started at the same time as the other problem.
What could this be? I'm hearing it may be the battery, or the alternator.
After talking with my friend, he doesn't think it is the alternator because he said my car should die out no matter if the engine is heated or not. He still gave me a spare alternator. Should I get this installed tomorrow or do you think the issue is elsewhere?
My car also as an alarm system with kill switch. It came with the car and I don't have the alarm transponder. Don't know if that has anything to do with the issue.
Hopefully someone can help me out :-(
thanks,
Jeremy

Re: 97 Civic starts then immediately stalls (with video) Need Help
I know but now the title is catchy for anyone else that may know the issue. I wish I could edit the topic title. Plus I'm a little desperate because I can't afford to keep shelling out money for parts that are already in working condition. I wastes enough money. I'm sure you can understand where I'm coming from. I've had this issue for about a month. I just want to be able to start and drive my car.

Start by summarizing the advice given to you in the other thread. You can ask a moderator of the Tech forum to change your title there. Send a PM to a moderator or use the Post Report button.
Do you have a B18c5 engine? What ECU?

Thank you.
And I have a JDM B18C 96 spec and I'm using the stock Type-R ECU. I was using a GSR ECU with jumper Harness before. The swap used to be in a 92 before I got the 97.
The car started up with no issues for the past 4+ years. But after he fixed the timing belt issue where it jumped a tooth, and he but everything back together, this problem arose. It wasn't doing this before the timing issue. Suggestions I've hears so far from here and other forum is Alternator, Battery, maybe a bad ground somewhere, Main Switch. I just don't want to buy a part and it not be the problem and I'm out of money from buying the part and labor cost. I can't afford to keep replacing working parts.

I haven't and I'm not sure if my mechanic did -_- I'm not really tech savy when it comes to engines -_- Is it something pretty simple to do? If so, I could give that a try. It's just weird cause this problem started after the timing was fixed.

I see that the car's lights brighten and dim. This is generally an alternator problem. Fix that problem first. Then check the ignition timing.

***Issue Resolved***
I got my wiring harness changed to a SOHC V-TEC wiring harness and also got my ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) Sensor replaced. Now car starts up without stalling! After reading this, it made sense:

Thanks again for your help Ron!
