I had to replace the outside door handle on my 97 Civic. Ex 2 door. Power windows and locks. Got everything put back together and had to make a few adjustments to the release rod. Opened and closed it a few times and everything was good. Closed it and locked it, now it wont open. The lock mechanism is working fine, but the actual door release will not open. I have tried everything short of pulling it off the hinges. Any ideas? I just read about taking the track loose and inserting a screwdriver or equivalent into the little hole where the release is. Should this do the trick? Thanks in advance.

I recently had a similar problem after switching out door handles on my 98 civic coupe. What happened to mine after a coupe days of use was that the rod that attaches to the door handle on the inside lost the lock washer. This caused the rod to slide out of the handle making it impossible to open door handle from outside the car. I just opened from passenger side, pulled the door panel and replaced lock washer and threw a zip tie around it for an extra measure.

Its weird because everything is working right and installed correctly. The release latch just won't pop up. The only thing i did is fiddle with the actual release latch before i closed the door. Could i have gotten it out of rotation somehow? I opened and close it several times and it worked fine. Then i closed the door and went to check the lock. I locked it, now it won't release. The lock is unlocking and the rod is actuating, it just won't release the lock bar.
