97 Civic - Blower motor intermittently works (solved)
This is my first post, just looking for a answer to a problem I've been dealing with.
The car is 97 Civic EK b20 swap.
I have a issue with the blower motor.. Sometimes it'll work fine but then times I'll have to hit the bottom of the blower motor for it to kick on. Note: there are no debris in the fan, fan spins freely.
Fan works fine after I hit it, atleast for a little while anyways. Then ill have to hit it again. Just wondering what else to check. Fuses are good.

I got a new blower (fan+motor) for my 96 civic. Was like $30 from rockauto, the brand is TYC. You can find it at other places too, price should be around the same. The TYC one actually puts out more air than the old one. The factory one wasn't that strong to begin with. Just to let ya know there are some affordable quality options out there

Because blower resister is mounted to the blower box it may also be the problem, so if replacing the blower motor does not solve the problem, the resistor is the next thing you would replace.
Or you could bypass, the resistor, [supply a direct ground to the blower motor] and if that does not solve the problem, then replace the blower, if it does solve the problem, replace the resistor. 94

Thanks for the tip. Will try the bypass tomorrow afternoon. Appreciate the help!

Blower speed 4 bypasses all three resistors, so if the problem occurs even at speed 4, the resistors are ruled out.
The fact that whacking the motor makes it work is consistent with bad motor brushes.

Once again I appreciate all the help guys I've pulled the resistor it looks mechanically fine. The problem occurs on all speeds 1-4. Will replace blower motor first.

Measure the voltage across the motor when the key is on, switch is on, but it is not running. If you have voltage but the motor does not turn, it must be bad.
Intermittent operation is very typical for a brush-type DC motor with the brushes worn out.

4 seasons makes a good blower motor.
mine's over 10 years old and still going strong.
rockauto has them with or without the fan.
