96 civic smelling fumes while driving

Default 96 civic smelling fumes while driving

i hvae a 96 hatch with a obd1 b18 swap. I barely finished up the swap and when im driving after a while i start to smell this weird fume. idk where its coming from? I can smell it alot too when i get on it a lil it. my piping is on and connected and all thta. Anybody have any ideas what it can be?

Maybe if you could tell us what it smells like. Gas? Exhaust? Rotten eggs? B.O.?

oh yea thats kind of important huh
i guess more like exhaust, it doesnt smell like gas or anything like that

Then you have an exhaust leak.

thats what i was thinking but from where? ive looked and i cant find it. when i was running open headers i thought that was the reason and now its connected to my piping and the same thing. But when im driving i hear like a buzz so im guessing i do have a leak somewhere

You either have a loose joint, a broken weld, or one of the gaskets all the way from your header to your muffler is bad. Pretty simple.

Is the line from the valve cover connected to the intake. That can cause a smell as well. Usually it's an oil smell though. But it's a possibility.

yea i have that one hooked up already the one in the middle of the valve cover right?
oh i was thinking the intake manifold
its not connected to the intake (i dont have one) but its blocked off

im thinkin somethings lose like sometimes when i take off from a stop i hear something like pop like popping into place or something

it ended up being i didnt have the back o2 sensor on the downpipe so i hooked up a spare one i have without connecting it to the harness and its good for now

Bad donut gasket maybe were the header meeta the catback

lol that would cause your problem.. i was just gonna suggest a bad header gasket.

Good stuff finding it out on your own!

where the o2 sensor screws in. Thats a bung. If theres no o2 sensor there, or no bolt to block it off, then its open lol.

oh well yea thats exactly what happened lol it was just a hole until i stuck that o2 sensor in there, now i have to extend some wires on the harness so i can plug it up and get good gas mileage lol
