Icon6 96 Civic HB: Won't shift into gear? Help!

My 96 Civic Hatchback will not shift into gear!! This started yesterday. I have to pump the clutch a couple times before I can get it into gear, and when I do it feel like it is barely engaging. This is getting dangerous. Please help! I will stop driving it today.

Any idea what the problem maybe? Will it be expensive to repair?

Thanks

Have you checked the clutch fluid? The reservoir for the clutch is right next to the brake master cylinder, in the top right corner of the engine bay if you're standing in front of the vehicle and looking at the engine bay. If it's low top the fluid off, but if it's low then likely the clutch master and/or slave cylinders will need to be replaced.

Does the clutch feel funny when you push it in, like is the pedal stiffness/resistance not consistent throughout the travel?

Does it feel easy to push in until it gets towards the very bottom?

Is the clutch springing back like normal after pusing it in?

shouldnt be expensive... ur having a hydraulic issue...... check for leaks especially the clutch slave cylinder.. pull the boot back that covers the rod thingy and look for fluid bypassing the seal... then look inside the car where the clutch pedal rod goes throughs and see if theres any fluid there... if so then replace the clutch master... or the outside possibility that either the master or slave is bypassing

Thanks for the info everyone!

I went to take a look at my clutch fluid and what do you know.. it was almost empty! I hope filling it up with fix the problem! I'll report in on the outcome.

I'm crossing my fingers that I won't have to replace anything and it'll be a simple fix
