Hey guys! I am to new to the whole car thing so I'm going to sound like such a noob haha. I have a 1995 honda civic ex coupe(ej1) lately I believe my d15 VTEC has been burning oil so I want to fix it but I figured it would probably be cheaper to just buy a new engine. I was think about getting a B series engine with VTEC since it has more power stock and I'm probably going to leave it like that (when I say stock I mean like no turbo) what engine do you think is the best to do if your on a budget... I have about $600 so I don't think I have too much wiggle room at this point. Any suggestion or ideas would be greatly appreciated 😃

I suggest you read the FAQs thoroughly. Then pick up the biggest engine with the most horsepower you can afford. Your small budget is not going to allow for much, if anything.

Get your self an ls motor 1.8 dohc they are dependable and no matter how crappy you treat it it's gna last long I always took care of mine and reached over 200k then sold her due to financial income they have long gears low compression so if you ever think about going turbo it'll handle 9psi on a medium size turbo very well you'll get about 210 whp which I'm a civic is very good since their light in weight

Ls motors are everywhere. Bought quite a few for 150-250 bucks and that sounds like your budget if anything. But sometimes you get lucky and someone sells a complete b16 swap cheap. I bought a complete b16 swap with gsr trans and everything minus mounts for $700 once. But ls motors are slow lol . B16 motors are just for a little fun but arent all that fast stock either.

What most noobs don't understand is that when you go from a d-series motor to a b-series, you need to buy more than just an engine. You will need new motor mounts, new shift linkage, new transmission, new ecu, new driveshafts...not to mention likely modifications to wiring to make all the sensors work and for it to idle properly.

Do some research and if you still have questions, ask away. You will be taken much more seriously.
