94 Civic Overheating on Highway
I have searched and there are lots of threads on overheating while ideling but none seemed to help out on my problem. When I have the A/C on when driving around 75 - 80 on the interstate and in 5th gear the temp. rises almost into the red. If I turn off the A/C and put on the heater it goes back down to almost halfway. Also if Im driving on the interstate in the same way as above if I put it my clutch and let the cars RPMs drop. The temp. goes down. I tried flushing and replacing my coolant but that hasnt helped. Any suggestions? Thanks

check you rad, it may need to be replaced, check hoses,
start up your car and see if billowing white smoke comes out of the tailpipe.
-thats all i can think of, im sure there are others that could go more in depth.

1. Drain radiator coolant.
2. Replace thermostat with OEM thermostat.
3. Fill with some OEM coolant or Prestone Quick-Mix coolant (works for me).
4. Check your water pump. If it's leaking, replace it.
5. If all else fails, your head gasket might be going.
Since you already flushed your radiator, did you bleed the air out of the system? Maybe you have a good amount of air in the radiator and hoses.

5. If all else fails, your head gasket might be going.

same bull happen to me if the resevoir hose is blocked to the radiator then u could brake the radiator u better fix that before u overheat it like happen to me

I had the same problem, but without the AC on. If I was going down the highway or cruising at 3K RPMs it would overheat. But if I let it idle by pulling over it would go back down. I replaced the thermostat, and that fixed it. It sounds really weird, I can't logically explain it.

My hatch did that after swap due to corrosion, the fins were no longer mated to the "tubes" between the tanks.
However, Thermostat is cheap (GET OEM! the aftermarket oe replacements are junk) change that and flush the cooling system refill with 50/50 mix of Honda Coolent/steam distilled water (helps prevent mineral deposit build-up in the engine...
to check for a loose fins on the rad; lightly press on the fins and see if the move freely, if they do replace the rad.
