92 h22 hatch: fixer upper
What's up everyone. I have always been a prelude owner and the prelude is my drag car (I know its weird that the hatch is my DD and the prelude is my race car LOL). I recently became the owner of a 92 hatch which already had a H22 setup swapped in. The car was not treated well at all. Oxidation all over the top half of the car, had ebay h22 swap mounts, stock suspension, torn interior, broken door locks, a wiring conversion job which was a fire hazard...etc etc.
Anyway, I had tuned this car a couple years prior and found it on craigslist not running. I bargained with him a little and picked it up for 1800. Well I got it home and tested a few things. No spark. Put a distributor I had laying on the shelf and wahlah, started right up
here are a few of the fixes I have done thus far and what I have planned for the future:
H22 swap harness from Carlos Zapien
Tanabe sustec coilovers and rear disc conversion
*
The EuroR manifold was rigged and I have a good friend who is a machinist that hooked me up with great parts
the headlights were also ebay specials. The projector headlight crap that came as a kit with the fog lights. Well I tossed that all in the trash and went to my local pick and pull where I got a little lucky
So with all that fixed, it was time to fix the terrible vibrations from the ebay mounts (NEVER buy those)
Boy what a joy that was! I could actually hear myself think!
After running into a few more problems with vibration, but this time under acceleration, I found the axles not up to par so I opted to go with driveshaft shop swap axles (sorry no pictures of them)
My next order of business is actually currently underway and on order. Every suspension bushing is getting replaced as well as ball joints. The rear TA are completely broken and it literally feels like the car is going to fall apart when I hit a bump so I have the following parts on order
Skunk2 Pro series upper control arms
Skunk2 rear LCA
Skunk2 rear camber arm
Hardrace front lca bushings
Hardrace compliance bushings
Hardrace rear toe bushings
Hardrace rear trailing arm bushings
new OEM front lower ball joints
coupled with an alignment and I shouldnt have to worry about that stuff for a long long time.
I've been working on the paint. We have 20 year old cars, not gonna be perfect but I am surprised how well it is cleaning up.
Meguairs rubbing compound
Meguairs Caruba wax
Meguiars Clay bar
Meguiars shampoo
still needs a little work and the roof is going to require a machine to buff out but I did pretty well by hand I think
and up to this point here is how she looks
I'm looking into changing the wheels. I've got my eyes on the XXR 531 in flat black but I am not sure if I want to go with 15" or 16". I like the 15's but I'm not sure if the 16's will look too big or not.

Re: 92 h22 hatch: fixer upper
I have the same hasport mount kit in my 94 hatch. Getting the bracket that bolts on the passenger side frame rail to lay flush with the frame is a PITA.
I had a 92 h22 hatch that had the "old style" hasport kit and i liked it mucho better.

Re: 92 h22 hatch: fixer upper
true, I for some reason had a lot of trouble getting the pass side bracket to lay flush with frame rail..
I always just install the h22 swap IN the bay and bolt up the rear mount and drivers side mount and from there i position the swap in place where i want it and then do whatever is needed for the pass side.
I personally love doing h swaps.. i just bought a 96 and a 97 hatch and the blue 97 dx hatch is going under the knife for a h22a swap within a week or two. H22 already came in the mail and now just waiting on mounts n axles...lol

Re: 92 h22 hatch: fixer upper
Its bolted to the seat belt bolt. Passenger aide still utilizes the belt, driver side does not. Although I do need to put the correct spacers back in on the passenger aide to allow the top belt pulley to move. I also still need to add the legs to the bar.

Re: 92 h22 hatch: fixer upper
Front LCA and Rear toe bushings installed
Skunk2 Pro plus control arms and rear camber arms installed
Moog ball joints installed
Alignment done - my alignment would be perfect right now if it wasn't for 1.5* caster split. Going to have to look into fixing that the next time I get on the rack
Hopefully the compliance and RTA bushings will be in next week along with the new tie rods. The LCA's should be in next week as well.
I ordered a few other goodies as well which will put a temporary end to ordering parts for awhile.
Momo steering wheel hub for my Personal Grinta
16x8 +20 XXR 531 in flat black
Muteki titanium lugs
Hub centric rings
Ready to see how this looks!

Re: 92 h22 hatch: fixer upper
Yea we got some weird stuff going on in the back ground and IB is finally getting around to seeing we have a big problem so hopefully they will fix it. The new search bar at the too has actually worked pretty well for me.
Anyway, it drives like a completely different car. There is still a little delay in steering but that is probably my tires and it doesn't make anywhere near the noise it did going over bumps. I'm gonna have to do something with the caster because it annoys me that everything else in my alignment is perfect.
If DSS and I could fix this vibration I would enjoy the car that much more.

More parts thanks to Tractuff!
Waiting on the trailing a tool to show up to make it quick and easy. I will rent this tool to anyone interested in turning a long job to a very short one.
Installed control arms. Looking fresh!
I've got 3 packages in route for Friday. If all goes well I should have the rest of the suspension parts and the goodies coming Friday installed Saturday with a fresh alignment.
Polished up the header as well. What a difference!
and I've got more
installed the new RTA bushings....yea. Didnt really realize the old ones were this bad
both sides were this bad.
and the biggest part I've been waiting on and suprisingly isnt going to take all that much to make it work with some fender pulling work
I will have some more pictures up once i finalize the fender pulling and pulling the camber in some to accomodate the new setup.
16x8 XXR 531 +20mm
225/45R16 BFgoodrich KDW
the car has definitely been transformed in both looks and handling performance. With some smaller tires in the 215 area I think the wheels would "fit" a little better but I am loving the performance from the few minutes I have had on them.

Re: 92 h22 hatch: fixer upper
It will eventually get a turbo system designed and built by myself (CMWorx) and I am excited for that day since I have never owned a turbo car.
I cleaned the car the other day and snapped a couple oictures. Looks pretty evil lol
Couple pictures after clean up
Also had a chance to test out the handling and boy its a night a day difference.

If this isn't what the heart and soul of a honda is all about then I don't know what is!
Great looking project man! Can't wait to see how the rest unfolds.

That car looks sharp, I need to get on the ball and clean mine up cause it isn't looking good next to yours. Did you get a sub frame brace by chance to stuff up under the back?
