Your car is so much cleaner than mine. Thats what I get for driving sideways out in the fields.
I cant wait until I get to do this, I want dem 11 inch brakes on my 2200 lb car.

When I started looking for a VX I searched only on the West Coast and Southwest. Ended up buying this one in Salem, OR. The undercarriage is so clean I could have removed every suspension bolt by hand. Not a single seized bolt and no rust! It does look like it might have a factory undercoating that I've been slowly removing as I go along. It's nice and a pain in the *** at the same time.
As for the appreciation, you've saved me some money and solved a torque wrench issue, thanks! I'll pass on a bit of forum advice I was told, "read more, post less". Sometimes I hit reply, type a response, and never submit it. It gives you the benefit of "speaking your mind" without what becomes the hassle of doing so. (And always Preview Post before submitting!)
Back to (re)building...tomorrow.

oh man this build thread is awesome! i have an almost identical build going on with my vx as well. mine is nearly 100% stock just a daily driver. i am super jealous of the suspension mods! i've got a bunch on my to do list.
keep up the work and updates my good man. hopefully i'll update my thread one of these days as well. hopefully when summer school is over i'll get her under the knife again

I've read your thread. Thanks for adding the pics. Your car looks good and hopefully you can get the front end fixed up!

Re: 92 Civic VX Suspension (Re)Build
Done.
Well, except I need an alignment now.
Anyway, I started with attaching the rear LCAs to the trailing arms. Everything went smoothly! Hooked up the ITR anti-sway bar. I have to say I hate the fat *** stock muffler! I could only get one hanger off so I ended up using my foot to shift the muffler out of the way to install the bar.
Once the rear was all together I lowered the LCAs onto jack stands and torqued ever bolt to spec. Jacked the car back up and started on the rear wheel bearings. I had to knock the ABS rings off the hubs. Non-event. The rear calipers became the event of the day. I had two sets of rear calipers. The set that came with the trailing arms (94 Del Sol Si) and a set I took off a junkyard 94 Civic EX. It took both sets to make one reliable set. UGH!
All the calipers were installed with new Honda pads over new Honda rotors. My wife helped me bleed the brakes. I put the wheels back on, dropped the car, torqued the lug nuts and took the car for a test drive. I like what I felt, but I'll reserve judgement until after the alignment.
As for looks...well, it looks STOCK! Can't tell if there was even a slight drop! I'm hoping the springs will settle (I'm not sure if that something springs do) and it will at least lose some wheel gap!
I skipped installing the rear Spoon strut bar. It requires permanent interior modification that I'm unwilling to do just for the bar. I'm going to look for an ITR rear strut bar instead. Although, I'm not sure that'll be any different.
On to the pics...
Rear LCAs attached to the trailing arm. Struts installed.
Garage space.
ASR subframe brace and ITR anti-sway bar. (and fat *** muffler)
ABS ring knocked off the wheel hub.
New wheel hub/bearing installed. Starting to look like rear discs!
Fresh out of the box Honda rotors!
Bam! Getting closer!
Four wheel disc brakes!
Right front.
Right rear.
Left rear.
Left front. (Dirty Spoon front strut bar installed)

Re: 92 Civic VX Suspension (Re)Build
I didn't want the Integra rear disc set-up because the larger discs wouldn't allow me to run the 13" VX rims.
Smaller discs, smaller rims!
Nailed! Or screwed! Either way I'll be stopping by Discount Tire tomorrow as well.
As the car sits tonight. I'll take some better day pics tomorrow.
Hmm...two bolts remaining.
All this couldn't be possible without the service manual, Honda-Tech and viewers like you! (Oh yeah, and Eric the Car Guy!!)
Thanks, eH.

Re: 92 Civic VX Suspension (Re)Build
This is genius! I never knew that these existed. They will make their way into my "to buy" list of tools for sure.
I have one worry about these though. Won't the added length with these attachments alter the torque readings from the torque wrench? Unless the attachments come with some instructions/correction factor that you need to add to the torque measurement/setting?
I guess I could always measure them and calculate the difference.

I've found something similar called CROWFOOT WRENCHES. Harbor freight carries them.
I would think so. Added length would make the torque value different. They have to come with some way to correct for it. I'd like to see one in person before I buy it, but I've only found them on Amazon so far. (Google: torque wrench adapter(s).)

Re: 92 Civic VX Suspension (Re)Build
There's a simple calculation for it. My snap on torque wrench directions explained it. It doesn't look particularly simple, its algebra, but I'm sure its not too complicated

Any pics of the car outside and on all 4 wheels? Im curious how your setup looks with the stock VX wheels. I have the identical car

Re: 92 Civic VX Suspension (Re)Build
There is a noticeably different feeling with respect to the handling characteristic of the car, obviously. The ride is firm, but forgiving for a daily driver. It is comfortable and handles potholes and bumps with finesse. The car is bored going straight, just waiting for a corner! Once I begin to turn the wheel I can feel the anti-sway bars digging in and the car becomes glued to the road! Very minimal, if any, amount of body roll.
I am very happy with the setup. And surprisingly, I think the best mod and $$ value was the C's short throw shifter! I ease through gears with just a BUMP of the lever!
I don't have very many "before" shots of the car, but I can see a small drop. Not much. I would have liked to gone ANOTHER inch lower. H&R OE sport springs are advertised at .75" so 1.75-2" drop would look better, but I'm not sure what that would do to the ride quality.
Enjoy.

Re: 92 Civic VX Suspension (Re)Build
I wanted to mention that I did NOT change the prop valve. The original "3030" prop valve is still installed and I have not seen any change in the car's braking abilities. From +60mph, I have applied the brakes to the point I could begin to hear the wheels screech and there was no rear bias that I could feel. It had a nice normal front end dip and one hell of a short stoping distance. I do have a "3040" prop valve that I harvested off a junkyard LX with rear drums and when I ran the LX VIN through an online OEM parts catalog the part number match that of a 92-95 Civic Si as well. I don't have any plans on installing it however.
I did install JDM corner lights, though! I debated between the full amber "Vision" lights and the clear JDM. With the color of the car, I felt clear was the better option.

Re: 92 Civic VX Suspension (Re)Build
I like the VTEC-E valve cover better then the H one that's standard on the 1992 VX so I removed the valve cover from a '95 VX. I finally got around to having the cover powder coated. I picked the cover up yesterday. Now I just need to sand the lettering and install it!

Re: 92 Civic VX Suspension (Re)Build
Sanded! Started with a 120 which was probably too much grit. Followed with 220, 320, 400, 600 and finally a 1200. It's not a mirror finish, but I'm happy with the final result.
I found my distributor's o-ring leaking oil, so I'll replace the o-ring and install the valve cover at the same time. Most likely on Tuesday.

Re: 92 Civic VX Suspension (Re)Build
So with a lot of impatience and a bit of time this afternoon I installed the valve cover and replace the o-ring.
Popped the old valve cover off.
Looks pretty clean for 226k miles.
New cover on. Buddy Club oil cap!
Distributor removed and o-ring replaced.
Finished! I also install a new exhaust manifold cover.
Before and after.
This winter I'm going to replace the oil pan, b-pipe and muffler. I'll install some new grounds (battery, tranny and valve cover), swap out my C's short throw shifter for a Buddy Club single bend short throw. That should complete everything the car needed and I wanted.

Like!
I have the 92-93 boring valve cover also. I had a VTEC-E valve cover but I used it on a D16Y5 CRX project. When I come across another one I'll get it powder coated crinkle black.
Since I don't want to do a whole color change and have hidden parts of the body non matching, I've been looking around at OEM paint jobs to see what I want. Keep your eye out for the aqua/teal Mazdas running around. You have to see it in person. Be interested to know if you'd ever consider painting that over the tahitian green pearl.
