Default 92 Civic 4DR DX - B18 OBD2 CYP CEL (solved)

I have a 1992 Honda Civic DX 4DR with a OBD2 Integra LS B18b1 Swap. My CEL is on it is giving a code 9. CYP sensor.. I have a hard time cranking the car sometimes and when im driving and i stop sometimes the car will die off. When i crank the car you will hear it idle then the motor will sound like its having a low idle shutter and then the CEL will come on and then it will idle out fine... I havent wired up a tach yet.. i plan to wire a tach this coming weekend.

I have done the test on the dizzy and they come back fine. i did take a test light and try to see if the cyp sensor wires at the ECU got any power.. but my test light did not light up with the car running or in cranking mode...

Just need some advice before i dump some cash on a dizzy.. When dropping a obd2 swap into a obd1 car do you need to wire up the CYP sensor to the ECU?

Thanks!

If you reset the ECU, does code 9 return?

If so, what resistance (Ohms) do you measure for the CYP sensor?

Did you measure the sensor resistance from the distributor or ECU connector?

If it was done from the ECU connector, then the next step is to test the 2 CYP sensor wires for a short.

With the distributor connector plugged in and key off, measure resistance between pins B11 and B12 in unplugged ECU connector B.

If the resistance is 350-700 Ohms, then next test for a short (continuity to body ground) individually at terminals B11 and B12.

Does your multimeter have a continuity setting?

If not, set it to measure resistance on the lowest Ohm scale. The touch one meter probe to B11 and the other meter probe to the metal frame under the dash. Repeat for B12. There should be infinite or very high resistance. Post the readings.

it has one. just doesnt beep... To make sure i tested my Ohms correctly. Here is a pic of my multi meter.. where should the settings be for testing the ohms and continuity?

The multimeter in the picture is dialed to the correct position for measuring continuity. Post the Ohm readings for the tests.

Your results are suggesting a bad ECU. Try swapping in a known good one to see whether the CEL is cleared.

Did you already reset the ECU to verify that code 9 returns?

i have done tested with 6 ecu's they all throw a code 9.. can not be a bad ecu at all.. does the plug need to be plugged into a the ecu when testing for the continuity? i have reset the ecu about 15 times through out working on my car..

I agree. However, your electrical tests found no problem. You could redo all the B11 and B12 electrical tests to see whether you missed something. Also visually check for damage of the B11 and B12 terminal contacts (ECU to ECU connector).

You could also reconnect ECU connector B and unplug the distributor connector and then test for a short at the 2 CYP sensor terminals of the distributor plug (wire harness side).

All the the ecu connectors are fine, all the ecu pins are fine. the ecu came out of a running car with no cel codes... When i tested and got the 455ohms i had the multimeter set to 20k-2000 on the multimeter. What setting should i have it set to?
