Being around here and the scene for a bit I figured I’d try to compile one thread that would try to answer pretty much 95% of all questions concerning swap specific wiring for 92-00 Civics of all models. Mostly this will be B and D series engines as they are the most common swaps, as I’m not that familiar with too many H or F series specifics, however I’ll add some links to good write ups for these. Also I won’t include any K or J series either as they are bit out of my realm and there are some good write ups already concerning the swap in general. If you would like something added or need to correct me PM me instead of posting in the thread so we don’t clog it up too much. I wanted to do this because often times I end up posting the same thing to answer people and retype what I’ve answered in previous threads. I don’t know everything but I love to learn what I don’t know and put it out there for people to solve their problems and also for them to learn more as well. Thanks

*If your JDM D15B doesn’t have a VTEC pressure switch you will need to unscrew this bolt and thread in one from any 90-01 Civic/Integra/Accord (See figure 2)

-Will need to wire up VTEC solenoid and VTEC pressure switch to the P28 ECU all else will be plug and play (See figure 1)

-Will need to wire up VTEC solenoid and VTEC pressure switch to the P28 ECU (figure 1). If your CX model is NOT 4 wire you will need to wire up the 3 additional O2 connections below to the ECU (figure 1).

EX/Si/VX - D16Z6/D15Z1
Mostly plug and play. VTEC plug and play. Knock sensor will not be used for the P28 ECU. The EX/Si/VX distributor will not bolt up to the Y8 head exactly. You can use it but not all legs will bolt up. To use the Y8 distributor you will need an OBD2A or OBD2B to OBD1 adapter harness. The intake air temperature sensor is not located on the intake manifold of the Y8’s so you will need to relocate your IAT sensor in the intake arm (figure 3) OR use the Z6/Z1 manifold which will bolt up to the Y8 head fine. Reuse the Z6 injectors as the Y8’s will not plug in correctly. For the VX you will need to use some EX/SI/DX injectors for similar Y8 flow rates. Also reuse the Z6/Z1 alternator as the Y8 uses a different plug style. CKF sensor by the crank on the Y8 will not be used tie it out of the way. For the VX model use the above instructions to convert the 5 wire O2 to 4 wire (diagram here http://www.hybridautomotive.com/tech/o2/).

You can use the DX injectors as they are the same flow rate. For the CX you will want to get some EX/SI/DX injectors as they are a higher flow rate as the Y8’s. Also reuse the CX/DX alternator as the Y8 uses a different plug style. CKF sensor by the crank on the Y8 will not be used tie it out of the way.

Alternator will need to be OBD1 B series for plug and play. For EX/SI/DX you can reuse the EX/SI/DX injectors, for VX/CX find some EX/DX/SI injectors for plug and play. CKF sensor by crank will not be used. For 1 wire O2 CX models figure 1 instructions for conversion to 4 wire O2. For VX 7 wire O2 use above instruction to wire up for 4 wire (diagram here http://www.hybridautomotive.com/tech/o2/).

Mostly plug and play. The alternator will plug in as the OBD0 and OBD1 alternator plugs are the same. For injectors you will need to reuse the EX/SI/DX injectors and for CX/VX find some EX/SI/DX injectors and use those. The fan switch location is different for the OBD0 engine and is on the back of the block. You will have to rewire the fan switch from the thermostat housing of your engine to the back of the block. The wiring order doesn’t matter so you will need either some connectors from a junk yard or some way to wire it up to that location (see pics below). For VX 7 wire O2’s (diagram here http://www.hybridautomotive.com/tech/o2/) and CX 1 wire O2 use figure 1 to rewire for 4 wire.
D16Y8 using P2P ECU
DX/LX/CX - D16Y7
Mostly plug and play. VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure switch and knock sensor will need to be wired in (Figure 6 for OBD2A, Figure 7 for OBD2B). Also the idle air control valve will need to be wire from 3 wire to 2 wire (Figure 6 for OBD2A, Figure 7 for OBD2B). The secondary O2 sensor wiring will have to be lengthened by using an O2 adapter if you are using an EX style catalytic converter. The intake air temperature sensor will have to be relocated in the intake arm somewhere as the Y8 manifold doesn't have a place for it (see figure 8).

Mostly plug and play. Reuse VTEC solenoid and VTEC pressure switch. 5 speed models will have to wire up the knock sensor as the only models with knock are CVT's (see figure 6 as all HX models 96-00 are wired for OBD2A). 7 wire O2 will need to be wired to 4 wire (eastcoasthondas.com - eastcoasthondas Resources and Information.).

Mostly plug and play. Reuse VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure switch, and knock sensor wiring. Secondary O2 may have to be extended if if doesn't reach. For B18C1 the IAB's will have to be wired on the P72 ECU (see figure 6 for OBD2A and figure 7 for OBD2B). The intake air temperature sensor will have to be relocated in the intake arm somewhere as the A2 manifold doesn't have a place for it (see figure 8). For B18C1 and C5 you can also convert over to the round style IAT and place the connector on the manifold (see figure 9 for plug style).

Mostly plug and play. Wire up VTEC as pictured above. Knock sensor will not be used for the P28 ECU but will for all others. To use the A2/C1/C5 distributor you will need an OBD2A or OBD2B to OBD1 adapter harness. The intake air temperature sensor is not located on the intake manifold of the A2 so you will need to relocate your IAT sensor in the intake arm (see pic). Reuse the DX injectors as the A2/C1/C2 will not plug in correctly. For the CX you will need to use some EX/SI/DX injectors for similar A2 flow rates as the OBD2 injectors won’t plug into the OBD1 plugs. You will need to use an OBD1 B series alternator for plug and play. CKF sensor by the crank on the A2/C1/C5 will not be used tie it out of the way. For the 1 wire 02 CX model use figure 1 to convert the 1 wire to 4 wire.
B18B/B20B/Z(OBD2) using P75 ECU

Mostly plug and play. For the distributor you will need to use an OBD1 B18 for plug and play or use an OBD2 LS dizzy with an adapter harness. CKF sensor by crank will not be used. For 1 wire O2 CX models figure 1 instructions for conversion to 4 wire O2. The wiring order doesn’t matter so you will need either some connectors from a junk yard or some way to wire it up to that location (see pics below). For VX 7 wire O2’s (diagram here http://www.hybridautomotive.com/tech/o2/) and CX 1 wire O2 use figure 1 to rewire for 4 wire.

Quick question I just swapped my obd2 y8 into my obd1 93 eg8 dx I keep everything(dizzy,alt,etc) for pnp on obd-1 harness. I'm going to be running for now stock p28 and already ran my Vtec solenoid and oil pressure switch into cabin harness. Now what do I do in terms of the o2 sensors? I heard that p28 doesn't call for o2? Is that true

So I'm putting my GSR motor into my 93 Dx hatch. I got the jumper harness and stuff to go from OBD2 to OBD1 but I can't get it to start . The motor came out of my 00 GSR shell and a few months prior to the swap, I bought a new dizzy, battery, and alternator, never had a problem starting . When the motor got into my civic , my mechanic was having trouble getting it to start and stay running . After testing my ignition components and such he believes that I need a new interior harness. Could that be the problem ? I'm just asking for some second opinions as this is my first swap and I've already dumped a good amount of money and it's just getting aggravating . For more specifics, I am now running a p30 ecu and we used the engine harness from the GSR (OBD2) so I believe we've retained the fuel injectors etc, could it possibly be the alternator? Cause I didn't buy an OBD1 alt or could switching to an OBD1 p72 ECU remedy my problem? Been trying to tackle this problem for two weeks. And these damn interior harnesses for my hatch are near impossible to find in my area (North Jersey). Thanks guy.

I have a 1999 Civic EX manual that I have taken the Y8 out of & replaced w/Y7 from a 1998 Civic LX auto. I'm leaving the manual Tranny in my car of course & using the wiring harness from the Y7. I have switched ECUs to match the Y7 & manual transmission. My problem is I'm not getting signal to my fuel pump. My 99 has the cabin harness by the ECU that is responsible for the signal to the fuel pump relay according to your diagrams but I do not see how I should go about fixing my problem because my plug is not being used at all. Sorry if my problem is obvious to many but I'm learning. I do not see where the FPR is marked on any of the plugs for the ECU that I'm using (P2E). The 99 came w/P2P. I've been looking at this thread all week & tonight I'm wondering what will happen if I just plug the cabin harness into the A slot of the car's original P2P computer. Please advise as to how to properly remedy my problem. Any help will be appreciated!

I forgot to mention I am receiving voltage to the battery pin of the FPR and to the ignition pin as well. If I run a jumper from the battery solder joint to fuel pump solder joint on the relay the car cranks & idles smooth.

I tried plugging the cabin harness into the original P2P ECU but this changed nothing. I have tried several different FPR's but this is not my problem. I believe it is a simple fix but I haven't been able to figure it out. Please advise. After reading this thread I know the solution is out there. If I have left out any pertinent info I am happy to offer it up but this is all I have so far.

(note for all 92 Civics the VTEC is already ran on the shock tower to ECU harness so using an EX/SI 92-95 engine harness will make VTEC plug and play.)...
when you say this I am guessing one for a 1.6 motor will work as well as long as its within the 92-95 years with VTEC or does it half to be specific to a 1.5 motor. my car is a 1992 with a 1.5 manual tranny in it and I am putting a 1.6 D16Y8 with its original manual tranny out of a 2000 civic into it

I have a 99 Civic Si and the owner before me put in the b20b but took out the power steering. Now the rack and pinion went bad so i have to replace it but its gonna run to crap because i dont have the power steering running to it. Can i fit power steering back in it or is there a way to get a rack and pinion for my civic without power steering or what are my options?

Hi everyone, I've got myself into a little situation. a few years back I picked up a bone stock 97 cx hatch (non vtec) d16y7 I believe. After the motor died, I brought my car to a swap shop and they put a b16a gen II into my car. I am not exactly sure what they would have had to do to make it run, I'm seeing everyone says that it's necessary to re-configure the distributer clip, alternator clip, add vtec wire into harness, injectors, etc. not sure exactly. Either way, the b16a runs perfectly fine in my 97 cx hatch, I am now putting the motor into a cleaner chassis.
I have picked up a 2000 Honda civic coupe siR (Canadian model) which would make that an American SI. The car has a blown motor so I want to put my b16a into this chassis. I've already completed the swap. everything is connected. I left the ECU for last. I go to plug it in and of course, there's 3 clips coming from b16a engine harness, and 1 clip from the cabin harness, they can't all plug into ECU obviously. And of course the car doesn't start.
So my question is, considering my b16a was running in an obd2 chassis, but does not start in the newer chassis, what do I need to do with these 2 ECU connectors? I'm assuming they need to be merged into 1. any suggestions would be helpful before I tow my car to a specialist.

My swap was just done not long ago and here is what I done.. per help with reading your post I did alot of what you made mention to do.. my car is a 92 civic vx and did have a Z1 with a 5 speed, new motor was a 2000 Y8 and it came with its original 5 speed. I pulled the motor and trans complete to avoid alot of messing around and then dropped in the Y8 and its 5 speed as a complete unit to simplify everything as well... I swapped the Z1 intake manifold to the Y8 and used the Z1 altenator, To make it a little more easy on me I reused the original 92 Z1 wire harness so that all of my sensor plugs matched up and as you stated I did get a dizzy harness to adapt the Y8 distributor to the factory Z1 harness. Knock sensor was not used and the crank sensor wire was put off to the side. NOW my question is since my Z1 had the VTEC I hooked up the wires that came off of the original harness to the VTEC switch and Y8 motor and changed out the ECU to the P28-A02, is there anything else I need to do to it for the VTEC to work. So far the only engine light on is code 41 for the o2 sensor heater,, wierd since I put a new sensor in it so I will need to track down that issue

Sorry if this has been answered in this form but can I use a p61 ecu on my d16z6 I didn't see it on the list or I might have missed it engine is in a 93 civic dx
