2000 civic: how can I start the car without remote
Hi ,
I hope someone can help me to start my car
I have 2000 civic with I believe factory alarm. I just lost my key fob and main key. I have a spare valet key. But if I use the valet key to open the door, the alarm goes off and won't let me start the engine. I find the little button under the steering wheel, but I have no idea how to use it and how this can help my situation.
Anyone have any idea??? please help!!!!!!!!!

I had this exact situation happen to me a few years ago. My remote battery died and I needed to get it home. The only true fix is to remove the alarm but as a temporary fix I jumped under the hood and disconnected the battery terminal. This allowed me to disarm the alarm in order to get the car home where I immediately traced the system out and removed it.

Also, locate the alarm horn. If it's separate from your car horn then it is indeed aftermarket. If it is aftermarket trace the wiring from that horn back into the brain. That's how you remove an aftermarket unit.

forgive me I don't have much knowledge about car.
Could you please be more specific as to where I can locate the alarm horn/the alarm brain?
Thanks

The horn will likely look like a mini megaphone

You can also trace the horn back to the alarm brain and disconnect it until you have a replacement remote. Once you have the replacement you'll have to follow manufacture steps to program the remote.
