1998 civic dx multiple codes
My daughter just took off to college and almost didn't make it. Car started running real rough and check engine light started blinking. I just pulled the codes p0171, p0301, p0302, p0300 & p0170. When I started it idled real rough but could get it to clear up for a short time by revving it for a minuite. It sounded like there was a snapping sound like a bad plug wire but couldn't find where it was coming from. I have recently replaced plugs, top O2 sensor, distributor and alternator and just had it pass an emissions test with no codes 2 weeks ago. Anyone have an idea what may have gone bad? The car is about an hour away and I'd like to make as few trip as possible to get this fixed.

Possibly a bad distributor, I know its new, but that still doesn't mean much, especially if it was remanufactured. You sure your getting code P0170? It doesn't show up in the honda specific list of codes I have, everything else does.
Hmm, upon doing a little more reading I'm starting to think possible fuel system problem may be the cause as well. Do you have a helms manual?

Re: 1998 civic dx multiple codes (94EG8)
I was leaning towards the distributor also and was thinking of putting back in the old one (replaced due to tps sensor code but ran fine) but the lean codes were confusing me also. I do need to replace the fuel filter and will do this 1st but kind of strange they came up at the same time. No manual yet but I see one in my future.

TPS code? is that a typo? the TPS sensor is on the throttlebody. there are 3 sensors in the distributor, CKP, TDC, CYP.

Well reading through the diagnostics the fuel system oddly shows up under each code, fuel filters are very often neglected, i've still got the original one on my '94 sedan with 313,000kms on it, it hasn't given me any trouble yet, should have been replaced years ago but i never think of it. Its easy to replace btw, conviently located on the firewall as opposed to the frame rail or in the tank on most other stuff.

Best investment you will ever make as far as that car goes, unless you know civics inside and out trying to figure stuff out without a manual is just guessing and that only gets you so far.

Sorry cylinder position sensor (P1381). Thanks for the help I'm just looking to see if you guy's had anything else I might be missing before I drive back there. Any manuals that are better than others for the honda's?
