Default 1996 Civic Hatch CEL P0705 Transmission Range Sensor

Okay, I have an automatic 1996 civic DX hatchback and I recently just got a CEL to pop up. I went to the auto parts store to have the CEL read and it came back as P0705, which is Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction. I have looked and looked for what this means and where this is on my care but can not find it. I have Googled it, and went through my Honda Service Manual as well. It is not mentioned for this year anywhere.

Has anyone else had this problem or know what the heck I am suppose to do? The only thing I can find for this is for civics 2001 and up.

The help would be most appreciated. Thank you.

The range sensor tells the ECU which gear you have selected..

Here is a diagram, part #002 is the range sensor..... The price isn't bad for new even for Honda...

I would do a little more research into the problem before you jump the gun.

Perhaps there is a way you can test your range sensor to rule it out..

If you reset the ECU, does the code return?

Double check the CEL code. Was it actually P0715?

If the code returns after resetting the ECU, you can pull the code yourself at home by jumping the service connector. Click the Codes sticky in my signature.

hey guys! Thanks for the info and sorry for the late response. I found out that the the reader that i was using was giving me the wrong code. So i went to a different store to use their reader and it turns out it was just my heater circuit for my o2 sensor.
Again thanks!
