Default 1994 Civic Hatchback: Cracked Windshield...

Hello,

Like the title says I have a 1994 Honda Civic Hatchback with a cracked windshield. It is only about 3 inches long but I still want to replace it.

My question is for people that own a 92-95 Civic Hatchback with an original glass windshield. Does it say "Honda" on the lower driver's side windshield? If not what does it say? I am starting to wonder if my windshield is even OEM. Mine says, PPG "Tint Safety Laminated" on the lower part of the windshield. It has a number below it too. (43R-00029)

I want to go the OEM route but I know it will be expensive. Also, I don't think my insurance will cover it since I only have one way coverage. My other option is getting an aftermarket windshield for about $150. The only thing is I don't want this to happen again. I am assuming the OEM glass is thicker perhaps and can resist cracking easier. Any input or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I believe no insurance would pay for the OEM glass; even the side or rear glasses. I have a full coverage and they just don't pay in full. Insurance will only pay for a quality aftermarket glass.

Some aftermarket whindshield is thinner. You should either shop around or just pay the OEM tag price.

Mine's cracked like a mother but $150 isn't bad at all. Looks like I'll be replacing mine too! Don't rocks suck?

mine was $246 and my deductible is $250 so I just paid for it since the ins. wasn't gonna pay anyways. I've had two winshields put in my hx, the first a rock hit it and the ins. would pay to have the chip filled but after he put the stuff in the winshield cracked out about 2-3 inches so had to get a new one, then the second another rock hit it and cracked out so had to get another one. yeah I prob. paid too much but since they did such a good job the first time I used them again for the second one. Also they won't tell you this but if the guy is good he can have the old one out and the new one in about 15-20 at most but you do have to let the glue/adehesive set up around the glass for a bit, it seems like they are charging for that time too... the first guy came to my work and did it so I watched him the whole time and the other I drove out to their shop which was cheaper. If I ever have to do it again I do plan on shopping around more since my insurance company isn't going to pay anything if very little at that.
