Okay sorry a head of time if this is in the wrong place.. This is my very first post and I'm still learning how to use this website..

I have a 93 del sol 1.5 manual trans. Has full exhaust from header to muffler. The cat is basically a test pipe. I get CEL code 41. Its obd1 so it only has one o2 sensor. I have read everywhere about using a defouler or a simulator on the secondary o2 sensor but my car only has the one primary sensor going into the header.

Lets say the wiring is perfect and the sensor is good.. what would keep the check engine light coming on. Is there anyway to bypass the primary sensor completely?

I have no emissions tests to pass.. I would just like the CEL off!

The spacers only work on OBDII cars, people remove their cats all the time on OBDI cars without throwing O2 sensor codes.

The problem with your car is likely the wiring, a bad solder inside the ECU, a ground, or an air/fuel mixture causing the sensor to go bad.

I read somewhere that you shouldn't solder the the wiring to an o2 sensor? Any input on that? It has a pretty new sensor on it already that has been spliced in. It was done by a friend of mine a long time ago to originally turn the CEL off. I trust his wiring skills mostly because I'm not so great with electrical issues. I've avoided testing the sensor for that reason. I bought a multimeter tonight and I'm going to try and firgure out how to test it but I wont have time till my next day off.

How would I go about checking for a bad solder inside the ECU?

What other issues could affect my air/fuel mixture? The car runs great other wise..

Replaced o2 sensor and so far the check engine light has not returned! I'm under the impression that this sensor shouldn't need to be replaced all that often.. so my next project is figuring out what would cause it to go bad so I can avoid ruining this new one. I don't have any vacuum leaks that I'm aware of so I really don't know where to start looking. The car runs great.. any ideas on what to check?

Sometimes on ob1 if you fix a CEL light you gotta pull the ECU fuse for like 5 mins to make it go away. My friends cat light didn't go away or run like it was fixed till he did that.
