Default 92 civic/h22a swap with aem 30-6040 ecu - cluster and CEL problems

ok here is this freaky as **** that i have going on. my homies civic with bolt on's h22a with built b18 tranny and aem 30-6040 ecu. well just a couple of weeks ago we swapped clusters we had the original on the civic, check engine light came on and everything at self check. now with the em1 si cluster the check engine light doesn't come on at all!!!!!!!! we switch ecus to the p72 and the check engine light works on the em1 cluster!!! we swap clusters and ecu back to 30-6040 and the check engine light works... wtf?????? the 30-6040 somehow not like the em1 cluster????? everything was done using this https://honda-tech.com/honda-civic-d...pics*-2738715/

now i heard there are two different types of em1 clusters will this make a difference?

American version and a Canadian version.

Main difference (besides the MPH versus km/h) is that the American version says "Si" and the Canadian version says "SiR".

Electronically, they are identical.

AEM Series 2 engine management systems are not OBD diagnostic compatible... the check engine light should NOT work when using the AEM unit regardless of which instrument cluster you use.

the only thing we didn't hook up was the srs yellow plug because we don't have srs. im looking at the diagram its has a srs wire, power and ground is this all for the srs only!!!! Or does the check engine light up with the help of this power and ground. only reason we didn't hook it up is because we don't have srs so we didn't bother cutting it at the junkyard

The EG and EK instrument clusters are not interchangeable, so ruling out some error in the conversion wiring isn't out of the question. Obviously, you will have to be capable of ruling this possibility out first.

Assuming that it did in fact work at some point, consider the possibility that the bulb failed or was inadvertently removed. First, locate the CEL icon on the front of the cluster, and then flip over the cluster and look at the same location on the back and make sure that there is a bulb/socket in the opening. Looking through any open spots and making sure you don't see a picture of an engine block is a good thing. If it has a bulb in the hole already, remove one that you know DOES work (if there isn't one that you remember for sure, plug the cluster back in and turn on the key - identify one and then turn the key off), place it in the CEL lamp hole and turn on the key again.

Also, just to be clear... if you intend to use the AEM engine management system instead of an OE type ECU, the CEL/MIL will NOT work anyway, so figuring out why it doesn't work is an absolute waste of your time.
