Re: 03 Si (pennies_hatchie)
i'm not sure if this has been said in one of the previous 18 billion posts, but here's something i hadn't heard until i read the last issue of SCC. the i-VTEC system in the new si enables the timing of the intake cam to vary between light throttle and heavy throttle, advancing and retarding the timing as necessary. the RSX type S motor also has this i-VTEC system. the real VTEC that everyone has come to know and love involves a high RPM exhaust cam lobe that at a set crossover point switches to this bigger lobe, giving the high VTEC power surge and lovely sound. The RSX type S has this feature, and people who own RSXs love it. The new Si, however, has a different VTEC system. The Si has two intake valves, a small one and a large one, per cylinder. below 3000 rpm only one valve opens, and after 3000 rpm both valves open. that's it. in essence, the new Si does NOT have the VTEC system that b18c and b16a and k20a2 have. that's why you cannot hear a high rpm cam switchover..there isn't one. they are basically fancied up LS motors, hence the low 6900 rpm redline. to for trying to pull one over on us.

I like them. Wait til` you guys see what people are going to do with these motors. Hondata has a $600 program that adds 20hp to an RSX Type S

The only new si I think looks decent besides a real CTR...is Shawn Hiller's. @ http://www.jdmhondaparts.com , but the RSX is sweat.

Re: 03 Si (soundwave9900)
I think it's FAR to early to judge them. Give them some time and I think people will start to like the body style. They definitely have some potential in my opinion. The latest article that I read in SCC makes a type-s swap seem quick easy .
Look at the good aspects if you can. I haven't heard too many bad things about the interior. Rigidity is excellent as well. Lets see what aftermarket companies pull out of them first. I think we should thank Honda for going back to a hatchback style SI. People were dissapointed when they went to a coupe for the 99/00, but now people are bitching because they aren't happy with the new one.

I dont care if you can squeeze 600whp n/a out of the car, no matter what its still the worst design that honda could have ever done.
To me the last hatchback was made in 2000 they may come out with another one someday.

Re: 03 Si (SuperCivic)
honda built it to be comfy and quiet, not loud and fast. i like loud and fast, as do most other enthusiasts. stock, it is NOT an enthusiast's car.

Re: 03 Si (vtecvoodoo)
I would like an example of a factory built, mass produced Honda that is loud and fast besided the nsx, itr, and s2k. I don`t consider any of those "loud and fast", but I know that is what everybody would reply with. When they build a "loud and fast" Civic, let me know. I`d even settle for just fast..

Ooh I'm going to hear it from black2kcivic, but I must disagree with the new Si bashing.
When it first came out I hated it. The only examples to go by were local ****-dealers' versions with 18'' Chrome Motegi M7 wheels on them and over 20K pricetags.
I think as the years go by and they get much cheaper in price and more DC5 swaps find their ways over here, the 02-03 Si will appeal to me more.
The black Mugen one pic'd in the SEMA threads looks bad-*** to me.
Bottom line for me:
Stock? Sucks ***, but then again my 1992 CX sucked major *** (18.6 1/4 mile time if lucky!) when stock too so once we see more heabily modded ones my image of them will be clearer.

Re: 03 Si (soundwave9900)
well, it looks 50/50. I didn't like them at first. then i drove one. Of course, so much more power than my d16y7. I guess it caught me off guard. Now that ive seen the nighthawk black with 16's lowered, im lovin it. but they should have put a k20a2 in it for that price.
well, i can get one for 15.5k (us dollar) from windsor dealers. thats a 2002, but its still new and identical to the 03.

Re: 03 Si (soundwave9900)
My only argument is this:
If you want a quick car that still looks good you can always buy an older hatch and swap in the motor/tranny, brakes, suspension, interior, etc. of your choice.
...but if you must have a new car with a warranty and you can get a new Si for only $15,500.00 then that might not be so bad.

Re: 03 Si (B18C5-EH2)
btw, there was some cool **** for this car at SEMA. Jackson Racing just finished the blower on the SI I got for them, too. The K series is going to be the cats meow, mark my words...
