00 Civic Ex tie rod ends: Power steering = different end? Also wheel bearing q's

00 Civic Ex tie rod ends: Power steering = different end? Also wheel bearing q's
Question 1) One of my tie rod ends is finally shot (Michigan potholes!). I normally shop at rockauto.com, and I noticed that they have some sort of wholesale closeout on tie rod ends for my vehicle. However, under the part descriptions, some of them list "power steering" while others don't. Are the tie rod ends shaped differently for power steering vehicles? If it helps, here's a link for their catalog--you can click Steering -> Tie Rod End to get to that section. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/rafr...arcode=1363058 The price difference isn't big, but I'm on a tight budget and every little bit makes a difference.
Question 2) I recently had the mechanics at a SEARS Auto give me a free diagnostic and they said I have two bad wheel bearings in the back, which would explain the horrendously loud buzzing the vehicle is now making. However, I don't think my car has ABS (no light for it on the dash at least), and I can't seem to find any rear wheel bearings for drum breaks which are NOT listed as "for ABS". My car has disc breaks in the front and drums in the back, and it doesn't have ABS, so I'm definitely confused here. Am I missing something?
I really appreciate any advice guys!

Okay, your OEM rear hub/bearing part number for your NON-ABS Coupe is 42200-S04-008 and sell for $105 shipped each at G1parts.com. The OEM bearing is made by NTN and can be purchased in an NTN box for a lot less if you search. ImportRP.com has them for $66 each (free shipping over $100): http://catalog.importrp.com/item.wws...N&weight=3.250
And no you cannot replace just the bearing. The outter race of the bearing is the hub.
The number on the hubs in google look like "HUB008", or just take your hub nut and washer off yours and read the part number of your originals. HUB008-72 cost only $39.79 each on Findiparts.com. You just need to confirm this part fits your car with a little google searching.
http://www.finditparts.com/products/.../ntn-hub008-72
As for your steering, the inner tie-rods (#1 below) are different for Power-Steering vs Non-Power (probably different lengths). The outer tie-rods (#14 & 17) are the same for both. Obviously there has to be a left and right outer tie-rod, so that gives you 3 part numbers that fit your vehicle. Figure out if you need inner or outer or both before you order parts. Look here for OEM part numbers if you want OEM:

Thanks a ton. How'd you get the associated NTN part number? (The one leading to importrp.) Huge price difference there--that might save me quite a bit in the future. And I do only need outer tie rods, so the fact that they're the same regardless of power steering is great.
Thanks again for your help

Re: 00 Civic Ex tie rod ends: Power steering = different end? Also wheel bearing q's
Well I searched google for "42200-S04-008 ntn" and found a close-up pic of the hub in the images section. Plus the last 3 digits of the OEM part number are 008, so I'm pretty sure that's the right bearing number. Again, if you take your hub-nut off the rear and pop the washer out, you'll see your OEM bearing number for yourself. This is how I would confirm.
Also, if you type both part number into google, you get several links that show both part numbers are interchangeable (some japanese parts list): http://infodozer.com/catalogs/ntn-wh...IO&maker=HONDA

The hub is the bearing. No worries about them being separate. You cannot pull the bearing out of a rear hub.
According to this NTN catalog, all the HUB008's are dimensionally identical. I'm not sure what the differences are for the different versions though because it doesn't show the inner race width in the NTN catalog (scroll to page 6): http://www.promshop.info/cataloguesh...heel-table.pdf

Did a little bit of leg work and found out that Timken makes the OEM hub/bearing assy, which uses the NTN bearing. The Timken part number is 513035 and they can be had for $40-50 after shipping on most auto parts websites.

It looks like you could be right. If you check out the Timken hub on the Autozone website, it does say NTN on the inner race. They must buy from NTN and put it in their box.

Re: 00 Civic Ex tie rod ends: Power steering = different end? Also wheel bearing q's
I didn't read the info anywhere, I just pieced it together from my cumulative google searching. When searching for the various HUB008 to compare specs, one of the parts sites listed 513035 as an alternate part number, and when I googled that I found a few mentions of Timken being the OEM hub manufacturer (with NTN-manufactured bearings in the hub). On the site you linked above, hondapartsnow, under the OEM parts sheet describes the hub as Timken and the bearing as NTN, so it all seems to make sense. When I search for the 513035 part, I see Timken-branded hub assys for about $50, and I've found a few (aftermarket?) for $30. They all list the non-abs 2000 Civic EX as compatible.
Edit: Just in case anyone needs these in the future and finds this thread, rear wheel/hub assemblies are also referred to as wheel bearings, also referred to as axle bearings. On rockauto.com they have both the OEM Timken for $40 and the aftermarket direct fit for $30 under the Axle Bearing section.

Re: 00 Civic Ex tie rod ends: Power steering = different end? Also wheel bearing q's
FYI: Then HUB008-72 is the right hub for you. Additional part number shown is 513035. Finditparts has cheap shipping ($6 for 2 hubs to NV) and a 15% off coupon you can use in the later stages of checkout "2ap311" that worked as of Monday. I don't think you can find a better price on NTN hubs.
http://www.finditparts.com/products/.../ntn-hub008-72
BTW: I don't think Timken actually makes anything. They just buy and repackage. Their front Integra wheel bearings are made by F.A.G. instead of NTN or Koyo.
***edit: Here's what I found about part numbers:
NTN Part numbers:
- HUB008-72 = 513035 = BR930033 = EF/EG/EK NON-ABS rear drum hub/bearing
- HUB005-65 = 512034 = BR930127 = EG/EK/DC NON-ABS rear disc hub/bearing
- HUB005-36 = 513033 = BR930010 = EF/DA NON-ABS rear disc hub/bearing
- HUB005-37 = 513105 = BR930113 = EG/DC ABS rear-disc hub/bearing
- HUB008-71 = BR930480 = EK ABS rear-drum hub/bearing
You can buy the non-abs hub and transfer the ABS ring from your old hub to save some money.

You may be correct when it comes to foreign auto parts, but Timken is a grade A industrial bearing manufacturer - I use their bearings all of the time in my line of work.

Timken may be doing the final assembly so they get to put their name on the box. It could be that they are buying the inner races from NTN and doing the rest themselves.

I'm sure 94eg! is right about reboxing and selling of foreign auto bearings by Timken. My point is simply that Timken is not ONLY a reseller - they have a huge manufacturing arm as well, which for whatever reason isn't being used in this market segment. Probably related to profitability.
