Icon3 [Suspension] What is the cause of this? EG Hatchback

SOLVED it was the bump stop plate that was missing

Just got done putting Tein S.Tech Lowering Springs on my SHS Shocks
the rear is fine but the front has the top of the shock sticking out where it shouldn't.
This is on a 93 hatchback.

Please tell me what I did wrong and how I can fix it.

Thanks ahead of time.

The diagram shows the stock strut. Are you missing the dust cover plate and damper mounting rubber?

Thank you for your quick and helpful reply.
I'm missing the dust cover plate.
Will reinserting in solve the issue?

It should.

Did you use a spring compressor? See second diagram.

Bump stop plate.....my assumption.....you'll need that.

Looking at the picture and looking at the stock strut diagram it looks like the bump stop plate and the bump stop are above the damper mounting base (plate).

Looks like the strut parts were re-assembled out of order.

The bump stop and bump stop plate must go on before the damper mounting base.

At least that's what it looks like to me.

Looking at the diagram again, she's missing dust cover plate, dust cover, bump stop plate and probably the bump stop if its not on there. Those are necessary, who ever helped you with this sure as hell did not understand how parts work.

It is the BUMP STOP PLATE that is missing. Period. The dust cover and dust cover plate do nothing to control the damper rod. If you tried to use them WITHOUT the bump stop plate, the step in the damper-rod would punch right through the hole with the first bump in the road.

It's the bump stop plate that controls the damper in compression. It's the damper mount washer that controls the damper in rebound. The rubber bushings are there to allow the damper to pivot relative to the top hat. The dust covers simply help protect the polished rod & cylinder seals from the elements.

Yes, we know the bump stop plate is what keeps the unit from shooting through the mounting plate.

In the picture, that metal disc on top looks like the bump stop plate. But I guess from what you are saying is it's the dust cover plate and there is another metal plate (bump stop plate) that goes on of that dust cover plate but under the mounting plate.

Actually what you're thinking that its the bump stop plate IS NOT THE BUMP STOP PLATE. That is the damper washer.

According to the OEM parts description: 1994 Honda Civic 3 Door CX KA 5MT Front Shock Absorber

#14 is bump stop plate
#6 is shock-absorber washer
#9 dust cover plate

Thus 93EG! is dead on, what's missing is the bump stop plate to keep it together properly.

It's not assembled out of order but quite likely missing parts altogether.

I follow now. Thanks.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.
I fixed this right after Ron Posted the diagram.
As always its the small things that matter the most. It was the Bump Stop Plate.
Put it back in and everything sits and works as it should. ..Easy to forget the little thing.
I recommend these tein springs to anyone looking for a decent drop and great ride quality without spending too much.
