Default [FAQ]Lots of Swap info for your EG and Del Sol

Ok i thought i would Write this up since there are soo many different Questions for these cars. IF you want to sticky this feel free too.

All B-series transmissions are interchangeable. you can use any B series transmission as long as it is on a B series engine.

92-95 EG & Del Sol swaping a 88-91 JDM B16a, 92-93 B17a, 90-93 B18a

Transmission: Thses engines come with japanese or american market cable clutch transmission including S1, J1,A1, Y1,YS1. To use them you will need a conversion harness. Hasport has one Part number M96-CC. Or you could use a Y21, Y80, S80, S4C Hydraulic Clutch Transmissions.

Mounts: A combination of stock civic and integra mounts can be used if a Hydralic B series Transmission is used. You will need to chance the bracket under the timing belt and on the rear of the engine for ones of the appropriate year. Or you could use a Hasport mount kit part #EGB1 with the cable converision harness if you wish to use a cable transmission.

ECU: Using a OBD-O ECU is not a good idea. A PR3 from 92-93 Integra RSI or XSi, A p30 or modified P28 for a B16a, a P61 or modified P28 for a B17a, or a 94-95 PR4 for a b18a are acceptable.

Electrical Differences: CX and VX need to convert to a 4 wire o2 sensor. Non Vtec models need Vtec Solenoid and Vtec Pressure. all models modify stock harness to fit. add a knock sensor except when using a chipped P28.

Axles: 90-93 integra axles, 94-up integra axles, 94-97 Del Sol Vtec axles, or 99-00 Civic Si Axles. Note the intermediate shaft seal in the left side of transmission is different for 90-93 Integra Axles. Depending on Axle transmission Combo, It may have to be changed. Hasport Part#: EGBAXCMP

Shift Linkage: 94-up Integra Linkage for civics. 94-97 Delsol Vtec linkage for Del sol.

Upper Radiator hose: For B16a and B17a use 94 delsol Vtec. For B18a use 94 integra LS

Lower Radiator hose:94 del sol Vtec

Throttle cable: B16a and B17a use 92 GSR; B18a use 90 Integra LS

Clutch Hydraulics: Stock

Air Conditioning: 94-95 Del Sol Vtec AC bracket

Special Instructions: For 1st Gen B16a's replace distributor with one from a 92-93 GSR, 94-95 GSR, 94-95 Del Sol Vtec. For 90-91 B18A's replace Distributor with one from a 92-95 Integra B18a or B18b. Injectors need to be replaced in both engines with ones from the models listed above.

Special Considerations: The First gen B16a engines are cheap, best bang for buck. 92-93 B18a's and GSR's have compatible electronics and make easy for a swap.

92-95 EG & Del Sol with a 94-2000 Integra LS B18B Engine.

Transmission: These Engines come with Hydraulic clutch transmissions including Japanese or American market Y21, Y80, S80, AND S4C. Japanese or American market S1, J1, A1, Y1 or YS1 cable clutch transmission with Hasport cable conversion kit part # M92-CC can be used.

Mounts: A combination of stock and integra mounts can be used if a hydraulic B- series tranny is used. on some 96 and up engines you may need to change the bracket under the timing belt and on the rear of the engine for ones of the appropriate year.

ECU: p75 from a 94-95 Integra

Electrical Differences: CX and VX need to convert to 4 wire o2 sensor. All models modify stock harness to fit.

94-97 Del Sol Vtec linkage for Del Sol

Upper Radiator Hose: 94-Up Integra LS

Lower Radiator Hose: 94 Del Sol Vtec

Throttle Cable: 94 Integra LS

Clutch Hydraulics: Stock

Air Conditioning: 94-95 Del Sol Vtec A/C bracket

Special instructions: Using OBD II Ecu requires involved wiring modifications. Generally if the ECU you choose does not use the same plugs as the stock ECU, an Adapter harness will cut down on alot of potential problems

Special Considerations: Nice motor, Smog Legal, and excellent base for turbo car. Smog Legal in CA

92-95 EG and Del Sol with 94-2000 GS-R B18C(including Integra Type R) & 93-97 Del Sol Vtec & 99-00 Si B16a2

ECU: Use ecu that came with the Engine with proper wiring modifications. For those who do not wish to use OBDII ecu's. For the B16a2 Si motor use the JDM P30 Ecu. Other wise you may use a Chipped P28 with the Proper Programing.

Electrical Differences: B18C1 add air intake Bypass wiring. Cx and Vx need to conver to 4 wire o2 sensor. Non Vtec models need to be wired for Vtec solenoid and Vtec Pressure. All models Modify stock harness to fit. add knock sensor if you are not using a Chipped p28 ecu. Hasport Harness for B18C1(GSRmotor) part #EGDX-GSR

94-97 Del Sol Vtec linkage for Del Sol

Upper Radiator Hose: For Engines using b16a or Type R Head use 94-97 Del Sol Vtec Hose. For Engines with GSR head use 94-up GSR hose

Lower Radiator Hose: 94 Delsol Vtec

Throttle Cable: For Engines with B16a head, use 94 Del Sol Vtec. For Engines with GSR (B18C1) head use 94 GSR. For Engines with Type R head Use 98 Type R

Clutch Hydraulics: Stock

Air Conditioning: 94-95 Del Sol Vtec A/C Bracket

Special Instructions: Using OBDII ECU involves wiring modifications. Generally if the ECU you choose does not use the same plugs as the stock ECU, an adapter harness will cut down on alot of potential problems.

Special Considerations: US motors are smog legal as long as the motor is from the same year or later. Japanese type R motors are very potent and wiring is relatively easy with ecu adapter harness. The B Series engine swaps into these year vehicles are by far the easiest. there are honda mounts available to bolt those engines directly in and the wiring is by far the simplest. The majority of people opt to put in a B18C, B18B, or 94-95 Del Sol B16a and those bolt in directly using Del Sol Vtec Mounts. the Del Sol mounts are the same as the 94-up Integra mounts with the exception of the A/C bracket.

92-95 EG and Del Sol with 94-2000 H22a, H23a Prelude and 96-2000 F22 Accord

Transmission: All 92-up Prelude 5-speed Transmissions and 92-up Accord 5 speed Transmissions. Transmissions with ATTS will require major wiring modifications

Mounts: Hasport mount kit EGH1

ECU: Use the ECU that came with the engine with proper modifications to wiring. For 96 and up Engines either back date electronics and use appropriate OBD 1 ECU or use adapter harness and make proper wiring modifications.

Electrical differences: CX and VX need to convert to 4 wire o2 sensor. Non Vtec models need to be wired for Vtec solenoid and Vtec Pressure. Add EGR soilenoid and EGR valve except for VX. All models modify stock harness to fit, add air intake bypass wiring, and add knock sensor. Hasport offers a harness part # EGWH22

Axles: Use 90-up Accord Intermediate shaft with 90-93 Integra Axles. To use Prelude Intermediate shaft a shorter left hand axle with a female inner joint must be used. To construct the proper left hand axle use 94 GSR left hand axle inner and outter joints on a 86-89 integra axle shaft. Hasport Part#: EGHAXCMP

Shift Linkage: These Transmissions use cables instead of linkage. The Shifter Mechanism and cables fron these vehicles may be used, 90-up Accord 5 spd or 92-up Prelude 5 spd cables and linkage. This will require some cutting and drilling.

Upper Radiator Hose: 90 Integra LS, Trim to fit

Lower Raditor Hose: 94 Del Sol Vtec

Throttle Cable: 98 Prelude

Clutch Hydraulics: Stock

Air Conditioning: Not without some custom Fabrication

Special Instructions: The mounting bracket on the right hand frame rail will need to be removed or it will interfere with the shifter assembly. A thin fan or pusher fan will have to be used with the radiator. Radiator Should be upgraded to a Del Sol Vtec Radiator for increased cooling.

Special Considerations: Suspension and Brake upgrades is a good idea.

96-2000 Civics and 96-97 Del Sol with 88-91 B16a, 92-93 B17a, and 90-93 Integra B18a

Mounts: For Civic, a combination of stock 99 Si and Integra or Del Sol Vtec Mounts and brackets can be used if a hydraulic B series tranny is used. For Del Sol the Del Sol Vtec Mounts and brackets can be used and you will need to change the bracket under the timing belt and on the rear of the engine for ones of the appropriate year. When using B series engines with cable clutch transmissions you will needt to change the bracket under the timing belt and on the rear of the engines of the appropriate year and use the Hasport cable conversion M96-CC.

ECU: By far the easiest ecu to use in most situations is the p30 from the 96-97 Del sol Vtec. only a few modesl of the 99-00 civics need the 99-00 Si ECU. For more info see Elctrical Differences below. Chipped P28 can be used if a OBDII to OBDI harness is used. May not be smog legal in CA.

Electrical Differences: Wiring Differences can be significant; here are a couple of guidelines. the electrical modifcations depend entirely on engine wiring harness, it is generally best to use the stock harness and modify it to fit. If the ECU you choose does not use the same plugs as the stock ECU, an adapter harness can cut down on alot of potential problems.

Shift Linkage: 99-00 Si Shift Linkage for Civics; 94-97 Del Sol Vtec linkage for Del Sol

Upper radiator hose: For B16a and B17a use 94-97 Del Sol Vtec. B18a use 94 Integra LS

Lower Radiator Hose: Use 94-97 Delsol Vtec

Throttle cable: B16a and B17a use 92 GSR. B18a use 90 Integra LS

Clutch Hydraulics: Stock

Air Conditioning: 96-97 Del Sol Vtec A/C bracket

Special Instructions: Using Non OBD ECU is not a good idea. Using OBDI ECU requires an adapter harness or involved modifications to the harness.

Special Considerations: Best bang for the buck. but not going to be smog legal in CA.

96-2000 Civics and 96-97 Del Sol 94-2000 H22a, H23a Prelude and 96-2000 F22 Accord

Transmission: All 92-up Prelude 5-speed Transmissions and 92-up Accord 5 speed Transmissions. Transmissions with ATTS will require major wiring modifications

Mounts: Hasport mount kit EGH1

ECU: Use ECU that came with the engine with proper modifications to wiring. for 92-95 engines either up date electronics and use appropriate OBDII ECU or use adapter harness and make proper wiring modifications.

Electrical differences: Wiring Differences can be significant; here are a couple of guidslines. The electrical modifications depend entirely on engine wiring harness, it is generally best to use the stock harness and modify it to fit. If the ECU you choose does not use the same plugs as the stock ECU, an Adapter harness with help cut back time on alot of potential problems.

Lower Raditor Hose: 94 Del Sol Vtec

Throttle Cable: 98 Prelude

Clutch Hydraulics: Stock

Air Conditioning: Not without some custom Fabrication

Special Instructions: A thin fan or pusher fan will have to be used with the radiator. Radiator Should be upgraded to a Del Sol Vtec Radiator or 99-00 Si for increased cooling.

Special Considerations: Suspension and Brake upgrades is a good idea.

That is it for now. when i get more information on K20 swaps i will write one up for the K20 Until then this should help alot of you guys. Now im tires since it took me 3 hours to write this. so put it to use and Enjoy the useful information. Im out JDMLifeStyle.

More Info: From AzntaggeR
This Picture shows why GSR Shift Linkage will not work with a B Series Swap into a Del Sol. The Del Sol VTEC shift kinkage is the right shift linkage to use. thanks again to Azntagger for the picture and to we-todd for free hosting!

my 93 cx already had a 4-wire 02 sensor. maybe b/c it had 50 state emissions? dont forget to mention that all 92 civics have the vtec wires already in the vehicle harness up to the shock tower plugs

The CX's i know for sure didnt come with vtec prewired. I dont think the DX or the LX did either but i could be wrong about that one. but im almost 100% positive on the CX since i had to wire up my vtec.

Thats actually incorrect IF your talking about 1992 models ALL came prewired with vtec no matter what model(cx,dx,lx).

well if that is true then i guess so cause Neither of my manuals have that listed but if you read i have list the following in all of the Vtec applied cars "Non Vtec models need to be wired for Vtec solenoid and Vtec Pressure"

I noticed something about the upper radiator hose for the B18b into a EG civic, I actually had to call napa and get a hose that started at something like a 2.25"ID that tapered down to a 2"ID, Im not positive on the sizes, but i know that the thermostat is bigger on the LS than on the stock engine

92-95 EG & Del Sol with a 94-2000 Integra LS B18B Engine.
I want to do that swap but i have an auto tranny. Can I use the integra tranny without many problems? What would be different?

bump for sticky: thumbup. about a b18b into a eg: the best ecu would be a 94-95 p75 from a and integra rs/ls. i believe the pr4 is the obd0 b18a ecu.

**edit

the pr4 is the 92-93 ls/rs ecu.
http://hondata.com/ecus.html
by far not a comprehensive list, but helpful
