This looks like great advice, and I dig rootbeer, but can somebody repost the pics? They aren't showing up five years later, and this is linked to the FAQ.
Thanks.
Thanks.

re: [FAQ] DIY How-To: 96-00 hatchback/trunk water leak fixes
I know the OP offered a cheaper suggestion, but I couldn't find the craft foam, so what I did instead was to just go down to honda and get the replacement gasket (you can't double up on the gaskets as some have previously said, it's a lie. The foam is too thick when you double up and the taillights stick out WAY to far. Although you can bolt it down, I doubt you want your taillight sticking out 1cm with a huge gap on the side). I got automotive sealant and just sealed both sides of the foam (to the taillight and to the chassis). My mechanic told me this is the best solution... and it worked out great. I got ZERO drops into the back of my trunk after this process and he says after this, there isn't any reason to have to ever replace the gasket again and definitely something Honda should have done from the very beginning...too bad the design of the taillight is too awakard to change bulbs without having to remove the taillight -_-

You can try getting a water hose and spray water at the rear.. It might help pin point the water leak..

GREAT POST! Cutting my foam out right now. I was able to find the foam at walmart in the craft section for people hard pressed to find it. It seems just a tad thinner than the gasket but fits a lot better as you can custom cut it all. I would recommend cleaning all the old silicon and foam before trying to lay the new one in.

i used the craft foam from wally world too. You're right Creationz, its is kinda thin. So i used double sided carpet tape to stick 2 pieces together to make thicker gaskets. The bad news is that stuff eventually wears out and leaks just like the OEM foam. I just had to replace my 2nd pair of diy gaskets. So this time i made gaskets from a rubber mat i got from McMaster Carr, so far so good. I'm hoping it won't eventually leak like the foam does

re: [FAQ] DIY How-To: 96-00 hatchback/trunk water leak fixes
HI:
Great Thread!!
This is my first post. I am new to the forum. I own a 1988 Civic LX 4 door with water leaks in the trunk. Which is the right section of the forum?
I have fixed the following:
1) Taillight gaskets,
2) A cracked taillight housing (water was sloshing inside the housing, and splashing inside the trunk),
3) A leak in the trunk lid seal,
But there is still water coming into the trunk from somewhere. I need to get a friend to run water over the rear part of the body, I guess.

re: [FAQ] DIY How-To: 96-00 hatchback/trunk water leak fixes
I found mine right after I bought the car, someone had drilled holes in my trunk as to let the water out after it rained, and my trunk smelled all moldy. So I was on a mission to find the source of the water. And I did. I took the Side pillars off, be careful the clips that holds them on will break. Anyway there are several areas where screws and such under those pillars that are not water tight. I siliconed the crap out of everything under those pillars, and the sprayed Great Stuff around the edges of the pillars and reinstalled them very quick before the Great a Stuff dried, this sealed the pillars back on where I broke clips, and also gave the pillar an addition water tight barrier. I have had a dry trunk ever since!
