Aftermarket oil pan?
So I found out today that I need to replace my oil pan. The Honda dealer wants $900+ to do it. I pretty much stopped listening once he told me that the parts alone were going to be $450. So after shopping around some, I've found some aftermarket oil pans that are much closer to my budget, but I'm not sold on them because I know that a lot of the time the fitment for aftermarket parts is questionable. Has anyone had any experience with the fit of an aftermarket oil pan? Are they all pretty much the same, and is there anything I need to look out for? Any input is appreciated.

It was more of a general question, but here ya go...2000 civic ex, stock.
Junk yards around here suck, and I've been burned on eBay enough times that I've stopped using it.
Now, back to my original question...does anyone have any experience with aftermarket oil pans? Are there any fit issues, and is there anything in particular that I should watch out for?

Okay. Craigslist. Local ads. Shall I go on? And I don't think you've actually looked in any junkyards by the response.
Please define aftermarket. Because your vaguery is astonishing. Aftermarket OEM replacement? Moroso? What?
And If you get burned on Ebay for an oil pan, then you're doing something wrong. Member since 2001. 1,100+ successful transactions.

And no, I haven't looked in any junkyards yet. Because I just found out it needed to be replaced. Today. More specifically, this afternoon. Very specifically, late this afternoon. Also, I don't need to visit a junkyard to know that the ones within a reasonable driving distance suck, because I've spent countless hours in them over the years. Maybe I've just been unlucky when it comes to finding stuff in junkyards.
Also, judging by your responses, I have to wonder if you even read my original question before ripping into whether or not I was specific enough. You've told me WHERE I can buy a replacement, but nothing about any sort of issues with the FIT of an aftermarket pan. Even just saying "all of the aftermarket pans suck, buy OEM" would have been more helpful than the responses you've given thus far. I'll grant you that my first post was missing some important information. I corrected that as soon as it was pointed out. Please accept my humble apologies. I left it open as far as "aftermarket" because there are so many aftermarket parts available, and a Moroso may be a better option than whatever the local Pep Boys has in stock.
Now if someone could answer my original question I'd greatly appreciate it. Are there any issues with the fit of an aftermarket oil pan? Is there anything I should look out for? Are there any brands I should stay away from, or are they all pretty much the same?

I read and fully understood your question. It was vague as you could possibly get. I cannot answer your question because you have not told me specifically what you are looking to purchase. For instance, Moroso makes/made an aftermarket oil pan and the fitment was ****. Likewise, any aftermarket OEM replacement I have never seen issues reported. Old threads regarding this could have been found with a simple search but you seem to have had as much luck with them as you've had with Ebay.

You're right. I didn't have much luck with the search function. Maybe I used the wrong search terms, but I didn't find quite what I was looking for.
If I'm reading your last response correctly, you haven't seen any issues with the fit on a direct, OEM replacement, but the Moroso's have had some issues with fit. That being the case, are all of the direct OEM replacements pretty much the same to the best of your knowledge? All I need/want is a replacement for the damaged oil pan that's on the car. I don't need or want anything that would fall in the "performance" category unless I can get one for a comparable price to an OEM replacement.

I picked up a brand new OEM oil pan and gasket kit for about $200. (Online parts dealer -hondapartscheap.com) Installation isn't too difficult. The pan was for a '92 Civic. Prices may vary depending on year.

considering the amount of y8's that spin rod bearings there should be an abundance of parts on trashed blocks for sale. craigslist is usually best so you can see it in person before you pay.

Your 2000 Civic EX has the D16Y8 engine which has an aluminum oil pan. Same pan and part number as the D16Y5. You may be able to put the steel pan used in D16Y7's but I always recommend sticking with the original design. The oil pickup tube could be in a different place and have a different length. The part number is 11200-P2J-000. Majestic Honda has it for $194.48 and it is a brand new OEM part. Just remember to pick up a gasket for it as well. The part number for the gasket is 11251-P2J-000 and it is $15.49 also on Majestic Honda. Don't use RTV on it. Just use a dab of it on the sharp corners. You'll cause more leaks if you go crazy with the RTV. You will also need to take the exhaust A pipe out of the way which could mean new spring bolts and gaskets. Torque the bolts on the oil pan to 8.7 ft lbs.

Re: Aftermarket oil pan?
the price the dealer wants to charge is nuts, get a good used pan, and any good local mechanic can do this, if you don't know/don't want to try, this is not a rocket science repair. I don't know the design on the pickup, but if it's one of the ones with a rubber O ring, of course replace this while it's out, easy and cheap insurance. just takes a minute while the pan is off. The screen can also be cleaned of any crap while it's off
