their is a hole next to the alternator. on a d16z6 block. my friend taped it and put his knock sensor in their, when he put a built z6 in a 99 ex. try that. just find a hole near the alternator that isn;t used. tap it and screw in the sensor. hook it up and your done.

ill try and get a picture

perhaps you misunderstand... i dont even have a knock sensor in the first place, so i'm getting a CEL because of that.

thats pretty much how it's gonna go, just gotta get my mind on the right track to spend that $100 on one ****** sensor, instead of something else...

the y7 and y8 distributors are the same. (so long as they are both OBD2a, or 2b)

so, to answer your Q, i'm using the Y7 dist.

Why not try a higher resistance? like 100 kilo ohms. You said high resistance, and it seems to me that 100ohms is small.

i've been thinking... 100k might be to big (kinda like an open circuit ya know), i would try diff values (1k,10k, etc)

i hope my info helps and isn't completely ignorant (i really don't know why you would use a resistor in place of the sensor, i figure you are just trying to trick the ecu)

well, with a 100k resistor, the current will be VERY low.... something on the order of .00012 amps....

but anyway... i just bought a knock sensor, and it should be here tomorrow

i never got a chance to try using a higher resistance in place of the knock sensor... instead, i bought a knock sensor and i need to install it soon

i just bought a mini me setup for my d16y7, where do i stick the knock sensor on the block, is there a specific location, and if i dont want to, how do i ground it out, where do i put it, and is it really necessary to have one?

the knock sensor, from what i can tell goes in the block near the pcv valve.... you can drill and tap a hole somewhere else on the block if you so desire and use it like that... its up to you.

and no, you dont necessarily NEED a knock sensor, but if you dont run one, you will always throw a CEL, and your car will run only off of base ignition timing.

there is already a hole in the back of the block for the knock sensor, as the y7 and y8 blocks are physically identical, its just a pain in the *** to get to. as for grounding the knock sensor to the chassis, i have no idea....
