Great write-up. My girlfriend's civic may need this done soon. Reminds me of busting loose the bolts on the rotor head of an apache helicopter. 1 person holds the tail rotor, 2 people hold the main rotor, one person holds the socket in place, and another person stands on a ladder with a 10' steel pipe for a breaker bar extension. And there are 8 of them lol. One click on the wrench is like 4 ft. of movement so the person on the ladder is almost falling off every click. And it's just as much work re-torquing them enough that the squash washers can't rotate.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just bought my first Honda. Anyone done this without taking the crank pulleys off? I did it on my Volvo 850, had to snake the belt around the lower lip of the rear tb cover and a metal peg blind but it worked. Looks like the civic has way more visible timing marks.

im trying to do the timing belt on a z6. how do i get the belt to tension up? i know on a B series you turn in X amount of turns, tighten it. then go 3 teeth backwards. toosen then lighten it or something weird.

Does anybody know if an impact and little compressor will be enough to remove the crank pulley? This is the smallest compressor made.

Take your starter offer, wedge a pry bar in the opening and turn the crank over (counter-clockwise) until you lodge the flywheel in place and make sure you don't turn it backwards at all. Hit the crank bolt with some pb blaster, get yourself a big *** breaker bar and the right socket and put some leg muscle into it.
That's how I did it and I'm pretty sure my crank bolt had never come off in almost 20 years. Worked just fine, torqued back down. I have no problems getting it off if I have to, and it stays in place just fine the rest of the time.

Just came across this one YouTube. With the pics not working in this OP, this is what I went off of and it just so happens to also be a d15b which is awesome. Very detailed vid of how to replace water pump and timing belt on d16z6/d15b. I wouldn't recommend doing everything this guy does but at least it shows what order to take things off and where the mounting bolts are.
