UGH!! 2011 Civic Issue
Hi everyone, I have been a member for a long time but have lost touch due to divorce.
So here is where im at, I have a 2011 civic EX coupe A/t that I have owned since 35K miles, Now at 70K.
I brought the car to BJs for some tires and oh god did everything go to hell from there.
Fast forward a little 6 months later 5th set of tires 3 brands of tires and I still have the issue.
Ok issue. Car will NOT track strait ( after 3 alignments From 3 different shops) every time I bring it back for a shake it changes the shake.
Now I have tires that have been on for 30 miles and at 55 my *** shakes up until I hit 62 then the ffront takes over and it starts shaking..
I have been over the car many times trying to find an issue, any issue.
Engine mounts all fine, brand new axles ( Honda ) new rotors.
I have looked at the Compliance bushings and they have a few stress cracks on them. No rips or tears.
tie rods, ball joints, struts, strut mounts, shocks in the rear, all bushings everywhere I could find, all checks out ok..
I have no place else to look for answers to what else can cause this issue..
Car is stock thru and thru..
Any input is welcomed...

Did they balance the tires properly? Have you thrown any weights?
The only other thing I could think it might be is an unbalanced axle shaft...

The tires have been replaced since every time I go in it is because there is a shake... last time ( last week) I went in for a shake and 6 hours later I got 4 new tires and now I have more shaking and the swaying is worse then it has ever been..
Tomorrow I am replacing the lower control arms with new and Compliance bushings...and then back to the alignment rack I go again...

I am at a loss. The only other contributor that might come into play is if you have the TPMS. The sensor(s) might be throwing the balance off...

Have them set the toe slightly towards the inside. Or post any printouts on alignment specs you were given before/after. Make sure you're going somewhere with a current alignment machine and not some outdated platform.
Setting the toe inward on both sides should point the tires (moreso) towards each other rather than straight ahead or away from each other. This should allow the car to stop pulling due to the tire angle. Anything else from this point on is play in the suspension or controlled by you. Probably an excessive measure but if you can afford the labor, look into replacing one or both wheel bearings to eliminate possibilities.

Toe in means a harder cornering experience and could lead to 'push' while turning at road speed.
Honda sets the alignment at zero toe, maybe try a toe out instead of toe in. It will lead to better cornering and reduce tire wobble at speed.
My old 97 sedan had a .1 toe out and I had no vibrations in cornering or approaching highwAy speeds.

This what i got, this alignment was done when the tire where put on. Yesterday i was allowed to use a lift and i did find that ALL 4 of the (brand new) tires had flat spots on them and one tire that the Tech noticed was that it was bowed in(Like if it was way over inflated) PSI is 33 and also noted that 2 rims have small bends in them and the other had a very bad bend in it and the 4th Looked ok, Which all does not matter since with bad tires you can have the most perfect rim and it will... as we all know still shake...

Well I sure hope so, I am ordering up a new set of the HFP rims in 17 with some Mich AS3 tires..
Since i really dont have much knowledge it 17" tires you have a suggestion for tires, I have been reading and i hear great things about the AS3.
1 other thing, Do you thing i should get the rear adjustable control arms to bring them closer into spec?

Re: UGH!! 2011 Civic Issue
I am running the HFP 17s with Michelin MXM4 tires. They are the stock rubber for the Si.
The adjustable rear arms do sound like a good idea. I would ask the forum about this first though. I have stock underpinnings on my FA5 as yet. Saving for the HFP suspension and exhaust systems.

What type of driving are you doing? Are you doing a lot of long distance driving?
Let me know I can suggest you something not only much better in performance but on your pockets!

Did you check your wheel bearings?
Jack up your front and shake the **** out of your front wheels, any movement or clunking could indicate the wheel bearing is bad.

Re: UGH!! 2011 Civic Issue
It was mentioned and with my back ground i have never heard of a wheel bearing causing this issue, I know the obvious when you turn the wheel back and forth you get the humm....or in worse cases you get a grind

Re: UGH!! 2011 Civic Issue
I am going from the 16 to the 17 and with the 16 i could NOT find any tire that was good.. I have ecopia tires and i am on my 4th or 5th set in about 8 months...
When i travel im at about 80 and would like a tire that i can trust to not just float off the road ( which is what is happening now)... I want a comfortable quiet tire that can handle my daily driving, No race or anything like that.
The last tire i got that i liked was the Good Year RSa, which i know is a cheap tire but it worked LoL

Re: UGH!! 2011 Civic Issue
I would highly suggest the Continental ExtremeContact DWS. They have a great balance of performance and all weather driving except for snowy/freezing climates (a winter tire is much better designed for that) but that isn't an issue since you don't drive in snowy conditions.
I would go with 215-45-17 as a size.
They aren't cheap tires but they are reasonably priced. You do get for what you pay for but this will fit you needs to a T! You will feel more connected to the road also which I believe is what you are looking for too. Comfort will be good and wet weather performance also. Thread wear is 540 AA so you should be able to see a fair amount of mileage.
