SRS Light on Even w/All Airbags and New SRS CPU... Help!!
Problem: Hi guys, I have a little problem with my SRS light. My wife had a little accident in our 2006 Civic EX sedan. This incident caused the roof and the seat airbags deployed. I changed the whole seat with airbag and the roof airbag. I tried resetting the airbag light (using the paper clip procedure) and the light used to stay on. I knew that my SRS computer had a crash code and therefore I knew that I had to change it. I noticed these guys which sell SRS CPUs with crash code reset and I went for it. I installed the SRS unit and used the paper clip procedure to enable the system. The airbag light resets just fine. The light blinked twice and goes off. The problem is when the ignition is turned off and back on. The light comes on again. I tried resetting it again but once I turn the switch off and back on the light comes back on. I do not know what else I could do. I got the trouble codes:
85-64 ECU Serial ID Code Inconsistent OPDS Unit
85-64 ECU Serial ID Code Inconsistent OPDS Unit (Yes, the same trouble code twice)
81-64 ECU Serial ID Code Inconsistent Front Passenger's Weight Sensor Unit
I once again changed front passenger seat and the airbag light keeps showing up. After installing a new seat, the car has the same trouble codes!!!!!
Solution/Hits/Suggestions: I pointed myself to these inputs when finding the solution to this problem given by 90sedan from Honda-Tech: “You won't be able to fix it yourself. The Passenger seat weight sensor and OPDS unit have to be calibrated when the SRS unit is replaced, and can only be calibrated with the HDS unit. You will have to take it to a dealership” ; and by Jaralaccs from 8thCivic.com “the opds and seat weight sensor in that seat need to be calibrated dealer only, no way around it “. I did not exactly go to the dealer but I found a specialist with a Honda scanner/computer.
The car was scanned with a Honda computer and they calibrated the seat sensor and configured the OPDS / weight sensor to the car. THE SRS LIGHT IS FINALLY WORKING CORRETLY. With this experience I could SUGGEST:
• If the SRS light is on steady even after the SRS system has been reset, you should point yourself to a bad SRS module (crash code) and the SRS may need to be changed.
• If after resetting the SRS system the SRS light blinks twice and comes back on and stays on, you should point yourself to a missing or damaged airbag and you should check to replace missing or damaged airbags in the system.
• In the other hand, if the SRS system is reset and the light goes off and stays off but it comes back on when the ignition switch is turned off and back on, you should point yourself to the weight sensor of the seat (Only passenger side comes with it). This does NOT mean that the seat weight sensor is bad or damaged. This means that the weight sensor and OPDS needs to be recognized by the ECU, or better said the weight sensor needs to be calibrated. It is like if the ECU did not recognize the weight sensor and it needed to be installed in the system.
In addition to that and like it was recommended by the eBay member myairbags_c0m: “You should never throw away the seat sensor under the seat or change the seat with it on it unless the OPDS (seat sensor) is flooded or damaged”. IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to KEEP your old weight sensor when replacing the whole seat. You would save yourself the headache of having to take the car to a specialist to calibrate the weight sensor to the system. I hope that this information could save someone some time/money! Thank you guys for all your help and support!! GOOD LUCK!!

You really need to check the error codes that are causing the SRS light to come on; just trying to blindly reset the computer usually won't get you anywhere. You're just shooting into the dark.
It's possible that you may have more deployed or damaged components (seat belt pretensioners, impact sensors, etc.) or a problem somewhere else in the system (seat belt buckle switch, OPDS fault, etc.). The ODS unit may also need to be initialized and calibrated since you replaced the seat and the SRS control unit.
In addition, it's never a good idea to buy a used SRS control unit from a vehicle with deployed bags, whether it has supposedly been "repaired" or not.
You'll need to take the car to a Honda dealer to have them check it with the Honda Diagnostic System. There is no way to read codes or initialize the ODS without the HDS tool.

Do you have an idea how to pull the codes ourselves?

Re: SRS Light on Even w/All Airbags and New SRS CPU... Help!!
As I have just gone through this with my fiancee's Accord.
Everything I have read has clearly stated there is NO SRS reset procedure for the computer. After an accident it is permanently damaged and the only fix is to purchase a brand new OEM Honda unit. The "reset" units are not warranted and are not supported by Honda. There are multiple internal documents from Honda in regards to companies stating they can reset the units and that this is not approved.
I agree with Targa about blindly replacing parts and not checking the code. I replaced my fiancee's passenger seat and side curtain airbag along with a brand new computer and had no problems. I did not even have to reset the light.

The seat belts have incendiary pre-tensioners as well. When the SRS triggers the airbags to deploy they also blow the charge to tension the seatbelt. This is one of the most common problems with SRS lights and people now knowing they need to replace the belt tension charge too. Good luck!

As far as I know, it must be done with an HDS. The service manual does not mention any way to manually retrieve codes.
I don't know if any of the high-end aftermarket scanners (Snap-On, et al.) can do it. They might if the software is up to date.

I think I paid ~$240 shipped for the replacement unit from Majestic Honda's site.
Just unplugged the battery while doing all the work then hooked it back up when I was done.
*edit*
I'll also see if I can find that Honda PDF regarding the SRS unit, it was an interesting read.

You won't be able to fix it yourself. The Passenger seat weight sensor and OPDS unit have to be calibrated when the SRS unit is replaced, and can only be calibrated with the HDS unit. You will have to take it to a dealership.

Yes, I called someone who has the tool but he used the term: "I need to install the seat on the system". I was hoping to hear the word calibrate some where and I did not... I am confused!

Thanks your last reply was very helpful. With the MaxiSys Elite from Autel I was able to re-calibrate the sensor and Initialize the OPDS. I had change the driver seat after its leather started looking bad.
