Default Q: spark plugs

so im changing my oil today, but i wanna get new spark plugs too. i know i only have 5000 miles, but its a habit for me when i change my oil. but i was at autozone and the guy said he had a part number for the ngk iridium plugs. i think they were the ngk IX. but anywys, he said he cant order them but he has a part number. and i wanna run totl spark plugs with my royal purple. i searched places and nobody cant seem to get them.

my questions:

has anyone bought the ngk IX for the si??

how many miles should i change my spark plugs at?
i usually do it every oil change, but i wanna see how often u guys change ur plugs

I'd get Denso's. I'm running the Denso K24s which is 1 step colder or 7s but I'm also boosted. Really pointless to change it at 5k, I'd change the oil more frequently then changing the plugs so much.

Stock Spark Plugs
Denso-sk22PR-M11S (Stock Number- 3419) $9.35 Each

NGK Spark Plugs
Stock# Part# (Heat Range not verified) Price
6988 BKR7EIX Stock Replacement $7.32 Each
2668 BKR8EIX Step Colder $8.00 Each
2669 BKR9EIX Step Colder $8.00 Each

DENSO Spark Plugs (Heat Range verified)
Stock# Part# Heat Range Price
5310 IK22 Stock Replacement $11.99 Each
5311 IK24 1 Step Colder $11.99 Each
5312 IK27 2 Step Colder $11.99 Each

yeah, i would say autozone is dumb. they have told me that they could order them so i dont know why they told you otherwise. but me personally i would change them since you probably got denso. there is nothing wrong with denso but there are better ones out there (way better) my car came stock with denso and i changed them out to bosch Ir cause ngk was not available. ngk is the #1 highly recomended plug for honda motors. i changed mine at 8k miles and i was able to notice the difference in a good way! i can tell i get a better combustion and better idle (smoother) it burns more efficient. everyone wants to mod their motor and do all kinds of upgrades to their car BUT NEVER want to change their plugs cause they say the ones they have are good enough. "if you mod everything else then why not the plugs as well?" DUH! there is no way in hell that you can go wrong with upgradeing your stock plugs. but do it with ngk. dont listen to those people that say... "you can go 50k + on stock denso" thats dumb and rediculous and bad for gas mileage. i change mine EVERY 10k miles. use comon sense and upgrade your plugs just like you would with any other engine mod. when you put on an intake you are taking in more air therefor you need a powerful spark for the air/fuel mixture. be wise and sensible

first of all, "ignorancy" isn't a word.

secondly, if your Si isn't significantly modified (or STOCK like mine) where the a/f and combustion chamber activity deviates nil from stock, then there simply isn't a need to replace the plugs any sooner than the factory interval...it's bone stock and the stock plugs they include will last me, you and the OP indefinitely. they are iridium and have a HUGE service interval, despite what you read or think.

i get a new honda every 2, maybe 3 years. i put 45-65K total on these cars before i trade them in for the next one. they stay stock, and with these "new" service intervals, as mentioned in my FIRST POST, i don't ever really broach the tail end of the service life of the plugs. Even if i did modify them with basic breathing upgrades, that still would not shorten the effective service life of the plugs in the span that i keep these cars.

it's not a high compression or boosted setup using copper plugs, where you will see sig electrode wear within a thousand miles...

don't you think if you had to change the plugs more often on these cars, Honda would take what they can get and suggest it so you potentially have to go through them for the plugs and the service? yes, they would. and, related to that notion, do you know more than Honda does about the health and what's good for the k20? no, you don't.

normally, i'd respond in a very terse manner as to not waste time on subjects such as yourself, however, this sub forum is full to the brim with BS, so, that said, don't come on here with your BS and expect to last very long. your post before the "ignorancy" one was full of unsubstanciated crap with no foundation. if you don't know what that means, think "nonsense"

oh my, im not gonna last very long, what should i do?? shut up with that. that was just lame and bully-like. lol

wow! what a retard, looks like someone hasnt been studying or doing their research or hands-on training on performance tunning and engine rebuilding. i guess they had their head up their *** way too long and studied on how to leave stupid comments to someone who was just asking a simple question about there spark plugs. instead you leave a comment saying that you dont change out your plugs cause you never even have to car to anywhere near x amount of miles anyway. the op was asking for an opinion or suggestion NOT A DUMB MEANINGLESS COMMENT LIKE THE ONE YOU LEFT. btw... i dont know what i know about plugs by reading or hearing, i simply know it by experience. as a mechanic i would know what makes an engine run good and efficient. and for you own personal 411.... ignorancy is an actual word. i googled it before i even posted it. LOL ""take it from builthatch, someone who plainly stated that he never mods his car cause he trades them in after 80-100k but yet he has so much to say about plugs"".....what a douche!

I'll give it to you quick. If your an 80 year old grandma follow whatever Honda tells you. If you want the best perfomance change them a minimun of 15,000. As far heat range is concerned, it depends on your mods. As a real of thumb, turbo or squeeze go colder, NA maybe hotter. Are you running fuel management? Higher compression? Stock w/bolt ons?

08 Mugen Si
08 Fit Sport
99 Si ( over $70,000) it love the twisties
99 CRV nothing worth mentioning
95 hatch w/sohc swap and Integra interior
93 EX w/ suspension and integra interior

"ignorancy" is absolutely not a word, however, we don't have to worry about that anymore since you have been deleted. you antagonize me, i ban you. simple.

secondly, 5wing, prove to everyone that the performance decreases if you leave the stock iridium plugs in for the factory recommended service interval of the k20, let alone past the 15k claim you've made. you can't, because there is no proof to be had, so stop making claims. the guy's got a freakin' stock Si. his stock plugs will be fine for a long time. let the freakin' automatic service minder tell him when to change the plugs, and then he'll change them. he won't know the difference, his car won't know the difference. let's move the freak on here...

let it be known that there is a severe crackdown in this subforum on the spreading of misinformation...

the typical 8th gen owner has, generally, proven to be WAY to impressionable for me to let this crap fly.

if you have claims, prove them with facts or viable, credible experience. otherwise, there isn't room here for the claim.
