So had to replace the top hat and the bearing yesterday. They were squeaking and making some annoying noises also the suspension in the front felt a very off in terms of stability.
I didn't have enough time to do some reach in terms of what is better as aftermarket so I got OEM ones and install them.
I needed an alignment and decided to go a little more aggressive this time for our last team track day.
Front camber is -3.0
Rear camber is -2.0
Toe is set at 0 since I still drive it on the street.
One tip that was given to me is to spray the top plate area with some WD-40 as this help it from failing and seizing. Also the rust will come out too.
I'm in the process of prepping my 2013 FB6 for some track/hill climb/autox time next season... A few things of note before my questions:
1 - I'm running an aftercooled CT-e setup, putting down around 248ft/lbs and 305hp.
2 - Going to be putting in a custom Koni-based coilover setup from Redshift this fall/winter.
3 - Going to be putting in Hondata TC this fall/winter.
4 - Considering running either r-comp or maybe more an auto-x style tire (such as an ad08r)... Not sure yet, I'm only doing track stuff for fun, not too concerned about being competitive, but I can say for sure my factory all-season tires aren't any good for track days!
The questions... I'm considering the fact I'll be pulling much higher g force after the suspension and tires, so thinking I should perhaps consider a baffled oil pan, maybe higher capacity/oil cooler, and oil pressure/temp monitoring. Anyone have any opinions about those things and any solutions for a 9th civic? Also, this is my driver, so I'm trying to not over complicate it, but I may already be too far down that road! ;-)
EDIT: Oh, also, with the aftercooler, it isn't like I have a lot of room for another cooler core (for oil cooling)... Something to consider anyhow...
If you go with R compound tires you will need to have either a baffled oil pan and a catch can also.
I'm in the middle of looking into it... I will say this for the oil catch can there are no kits for it you have to piece it out.
For the baffled oil pan I would go with Moroso is the best option out there.
Oil temp gauge is also a good idea also will be getting one over the winter for next season.
Thanks, that backs up what I was already thinking. Regarding the catch can, I'm presuming you mean on the crankcase where the PCV is normally and not the valve cover? Or is there enough oil movement in both places to need a can? I was already considering the PCV side just to keep my aftercooler/intake clean... Also not to worried about buying a catch can and installing, the difficult part is figuring out where to mount it and understanding the theory/application, the rest should be pretty simple...
And not to be contrary since I did ask for advice, but I've seen some mixed reviews about Moroso pans sealing well. What's your opinion about picking up (or fabbing) a weld-in kit with a factory pan?
So what if I stuck to tires more like the RE-11a, ad08r, or ZII? You think the same things still apply, or it's not such a big deal?
If you stick with ZII or Re's or Ad's you should be fine... but I would still do a catch can regardless! I rather play it safe tbh.
I'll ask a few of my track buddies what they think of the Moroso pans they all have Kswaps so the information should be useful enough for the both of us.
Nice to see a track thread in here. Going back to your oil starvation, baffled pan questions. I ran into quiet a bit of oil starvation issues back in July when I was at Road America. (07 Civic Si Coupe) Faster track, higher speeds while cornering. I didn't notice too much though while I was at Mid Ohio. I plan on sending my oil pan off to Tracktuff for a baffled pan and modified oil pump. He shaved and modified my RBC. Great company to work with. Anyone else in the SE region? A lot of people are using the A2 oil pump. I still haven't made the change yet but will probably have to at some point. Also going R compound tires will help cause oil starvation as the cornering speed with be much great so the force of movement will also.
What size wheels you guys running on the cars ? I was figuring once I get my new 4dr si that I would want 17in wheels for the track. Curious to hear what you guys use.
I'll be using the RPF1 since they are light, durable and cheap to replace.
I don't disagree that it is light and durable, (they are using the same technology in this wheel as they are in the F1 wheel) but dont forget about the new Advanti Racing HY Hybris wheel. Its also light, flow formed and very affordable. -though only offered in 7.5" width. In a 17x7.5, its $155.
