Default Need to remove the door trim to fix the door lock

I have a 2008 Civic DX. How can I remove the interior door trim to fix the door lock cylinder? Is there a way to fix the loose lock cylinder without replacing it?

Excellent video. Thank you.
I saw a video onnce on YouTube where someone showed how to fix a broken (loose) door lock cylinder but I cannot find it. Any sugestions? I would gladly install keyless entry but I have no clue where to begin? Unfortunetly Civic DX comes with manual door locks.

kinda goes without saying, but you need to determine why its loose. Maybe contact the honda parts dept and get an exploded view of the door and lock assembly. I would start there, as I don't have the slightest idea as to how they're attached to the door, let alone how to fix it. It might be something as simple as adding a shim or as extensive as rekeying a new cylinder and installing it.

maybe go to a body shop one day on lunch or after work and see if they can guide you.

Default Re: Need to remove the door trim to fix the door lock (solved)

Just an update. I have successfully removed the door panel and repaired the door lock cylinder using the above video and diagram. The door lock cylinder has pins which close when key is inserted allowing the the cylinder to turn and open or close the door. Over time (relatively short time with Honda) the ends of the pins wear-out and don't go down when the key is inserted. The solution is to change the cylinder or replace the pins (if you can find the new pins with the same number or remove the problem pins. The ignition switch cylinder works exactly the same and also failed not that long ago on this car. The car is only 7 years old. This is a premature failure in my opinion and shows poor quality of components used.

wow. i thought you meant the cylinder assembly was just loose in the door and rattling around. now I really have no idea what you're talking about.

are you saying the tumblers/pins in the door/handle ride free? or was your key just not working all the time and thats why it needed to be fixed. i guess maybe im not sure as to what the issue was in the first [place.

I have reread my first post and indeed I said loose cylinder. Well no, I was unable to move the key. The cylinder was stuck. I was unable to turn the key. Based on my experience with the ignition key cylinder it was an easy fix. The hardest part was removing the door panel and the door lock cylinder. Thanks for your YouTube video link and the diagram. It helped a lot.
