K series are usually prone to excessive burning of oil. A close watch should always be kept on oil levels ESPECIALLY on new motors.

yea def. keep am eye on it, its normal for them to burn a little oil due to thats a high compression engine. it happens to all of them so check them boys and girls.

sometimes it can be due to the tech who did the PDI inspection on it..some techs get lazy and dont really go thru everything like they do but some actually take the time and check the oil level and add if needed

Mine was about 1.5qts low by 3000 miles...

Did an oil change at about 4800miles, and I was half a quart low again by 6000 miles..

I REALLY hope it improves, I drive like a grandma and upshift at the recommended shift points (about 4k rpm)

The first oil change, I put in exactly the amount specified in the manual.

On a side note: The amount specified in the manual only filled it up just a little above the first dot initially. I then let it settle for about 15 minutes, came back and the oil level was right about the middle. I always check my oil before the car is turn on in the morning.

whats the manual say? i havent looked at the manual b4 so i dont really know...when is started to do oil changes on the SI i thought it was 4.6qts like most of the k series but its actually 5.2 qts...if you put 4.6 qts and start it up and check it, then it will be alittle above the first dot...its because of the oil cooler that the 06+si has that makes it take so much oil then the other k series

the manual also says that if you are in Vtec often its gonna burn oil. But you guys seem to be burning a lot... I go through a quart about every 5000 miles and I drive the **** out of my car. But ive also broken it in properly, none of that drive-like-an-old-lady-for-600-miles crap.

compression has nothing to do with it.

he talking about running it hard from the start. there's a link with a "break-in" write up floating around here. it's a method for motorcycles but can be applied to automobiles too.

i didn't do none of that play it safe stuff for 600 miles either. if the rings dont seat within the first few miles they never seat right. i've done it with two other motors i've built....works like a charm and i didn't have to wait to street tune.

welcome to owning a k-series motor
high oil consumption is very common
just check it every now and then and top off it needed

For the people that burned oil, when did you notice it stop burning oil?

I'm tempted to put in a dye to see if there is a tiny leak somewhere. I just don't think a 2007 car should be burning this much.

dye? oil is colored enough already. if there is a leak anywhere you'd be able to find it.

It's a UV dye that lights up like a light bulb under a black light.
