Default How many of u follow Honda's oil life maintenance?

every 5000-7000 miles i've been getting maintenance from my dealer which has been costing me....mostly $150 every 2-3 months...cuz I drive a lot. :-/ Sometimes just $40 for just an oil change, but mostly $150 ;x

am i getting ripped off here? I do get free tires (I got brand new Falken Azenis last time--could have even gotten more expensive tires $240 PER tire worth) and car washes, and a couple other perks like roadside service and car rentals)...

it's just going in accordance with the Honda Oil Life %.... also, I'm out of warrantee b/c I'm around 40,000 miles now.

A1 is like an oil change + tire rotation, $45 or so

B1 is inspecting a bunch of stuff like fluids tires, etc.., oil change, and tire rotation. $150

B2 is more expensive with changing of hepa filter, or whatever and all of B1 stuff... $275?

without fail, with the way I drive--every 5000 miles my oil life is at 15% and I need to go in to get maintenance--although I don't take it in right away.

is this worth it? I get 2 sets of free tires per 3 years. so I have to make my falkens last -_- next time I think I'll get more durable all season performance tires that are still really good

I've been following the Oil Life indicator from the start. Since my first oil change, I've been using Mobil 1 Synthetic. 15% usually pops up at around 6500 miles. 46,000+ miles later, still running like new.

I ALWAYS change my own oil, it cost me around $30 for oil and filter. But you can change the oil filter at every other oil change, so that should cost you less for the oil change.

how are you getting free falken azenis tires? civics come with bridgestone tires i believe and i think the warranty is to replace bridgestones with bridestones.

as for you getting ripped off...spending 150 every 2-3 months is way too much. i spend $22 every 3 months and thats tire rotation and oil change. i never go to honda unless i have a warranty issue/complaint. if you dont want to do it yourself...find a local, trustworthy small shop that will do it for cheaper w/ certified honda mechanics.

honestly, you can do most of the things the maintenance reminder brings up such as oil change or rotate tires. you can check you fluid levels and make sure you arent getting ripped off...if you see a level low then fill it up yourself or have honda do it for you.

yeah, it's just a thing they have at my dealership...customers for life

as long as you do all your scheduled maintenance there, free tires for life is a perk.

2 full sets of tires per 3 years. the tread level has to be at 3/32" (2/32 is the legal limit).

I had to do a lot of burnouts/spinning of tires to wear out my stock Pilot all seasons...lol

but I can get either the stocks for free $240 EACH....OR ANY TIRE UP TO THAT AMOUNT :D Any size, any tire, etc...so I could even get bigger wheels and they'd buy the tires for me as long as they're under $240 for each tire...

Pretty nice, but i see...many of you are spending waaay less on maintenance a year... I see

maybe i'll do it just once and get one more set of free tires that will last a long while (more all season ones and not the falkens)...then stop going there ;O

dude you need to check yourself and your pwners manual. A1 and B1 are the exact same thing! A honda says is an Oil Change amd B is an Oil and Oil Filter Change...you are gettin raped if you are going by what they are telling you. You should NOT have to shell out that kinda dough for regular maintenance. At least til like 30k when they recomend trans and brake fluid flushes.

dam thats alot of $ goign to the dealer. i just went for the 1st oil change to the dealer @30 percent oil life and i got an oil and filter change.i think i had a 5 bux off coupon so it cost me around 30 bux.
From now on i will be doing oil changes myself as well as tire rotations.
Screw those inspection alerts too. You can do that yourself. Just check if all fluids are on the max line.

honestly you will bond with the car more when you work around it.!!

yeah i do follow maintenance indicator... but 150 $ ? that's a lot ! definitely find a place that you like to do it for cheaper than a dealership or do it yourself, it's not that hard.

I don't know I think the free tires makes up for the rip off though. I don't recall anything major for maintenance besides tire rotation, oil change, and checking bouch of stuff. My dealer charge me about 28 bucks for oil change and filter, checking tire pressure and top off all fluids. They wanted to do tire rotation and checking breaks and stuff for 150 something last time I was there, but I told them I installed new wheels and tires not long ago, and I don't break that much if pads are gone I could hear it. And they said "Ok" That was it.

Speaking of oil life, my oil life meter seems to diminish at the same rate with Royal Purple as it does with conventional. Can anyone elaborate on this?

The maintenance minder doesn't have any means to directly monitor oil properties. It uses the mileage, RPM, and time to determine the rate of decrease in oil life.

I don't know if you can or not... but the ECU can't. It's more advanced than the old mileage based maintenance minders, but works on an algorithm created to take certain inputs or events into account in determining remaining oil life. It has no idea what the consistency or actual condition of your oil is, which is why regular oil and synthetic come up with similar change intervals when going by the maintenance minder.

So I have a question then.....Since I am runing Amsoil in my 06 si....should I be changing it when the maintenance minder tells me to or can I get a little extra life out of the high quality full synthetic?

well i use Royal Purple in mine and i go by the maintenance minder. I figure "yeah i use synthetic, but i drive my car how it was designed to be driven" so yeah 5k on synthetic is fine with me.

looks like they're trying to take care of me and keep me happy.

although it's not in warrantee, they're gonna pay for the manual transmission fluid change (to Honda's fluid per the bulletin) for free just for a one-time-thing.

I hope it fixes the notchy 3rd gear issue :x

Do it urself, much cheaper just get urself a filter and oil. It's not that hard to change the oil and rotate the wheels. And it feels good if ur the one takin care of ur car And i just don't trust other people doin my cars oil change specially on shops that u can't enter their work area and watch how they work on ur car, u can't tell, maybe they're not doin it the right way it supposed to be.

I change my oil every 3,000 miles disregarding the oil life indicator

I usually just get the oil change like every 2 months, and all the tire rotation and Fluids check etc i get like evry 3-4 months. It really matters how much u drive ur car.... like 200 a month or 800 or i know my dad does like almost 1500 a month cause hes job is far away... So i think u shouldent trat ur car like a babby... limit it or ur just gonna kill ur budget,

I just did my first oil change for my car. I waited the recommended 5k before I did my first oil change. Well, almost. I changed it at 4,620 because my oil life indicator was at 5%. Changed the engine oil for Mobil1 oil and Mobil1 filter. Also, I swapped out the MTF for Pennzoil Syncromesh. What a difference. So much smoother, especially on downshifts. From here on out, I will change my oil every 3k, whether the oil life indicator says 5% or 95%.

Hahaha I do about 1200-1500 a week. Im getting my oil changed every other month. I do by the oil indicator. Which usually comes out to about 6500 miles.

Its fine, synthetic has been proven not to break down like standard oil. If your scared have an oil test done. If your replacing synthetic after 3k miles your wasting money.
