how to disable AC on defrost?
how do i disable or turn off the auto AC when the vents are set on defrost mode? i would like to be able to turn the AC on/off manually.
i followed these instruction for 01-03 civic but it didn't work for my 06.
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.a...6c853dbb7a8a41
(1) Turn Car Off
(2) Turn Temperature **** To Full Blue (All the way to the left -Counter-Clock Wise)
(3) Turn Vent **** To Off (All the way to the left - Counter-Clock Wise)
(4) Hold Down Air Recirculation Button As Well As A/C Button. NOT THE DEFROSTING BUTTON.
(5) Turn the car on to two (ll) . The recirculation blinks ONCE and the AC blinks once.
You will now have control of your A/C regardless of what setting you
are in, to revert back, simply repeat the procedue.
Make sure u hold on to the two buttons before u turn on the car. Hold
it till after the AC button blinks. The recirculation button blinks
first than the AC. Make sure ur not holding on the Defrosting button
for the rear window

Re: how to disable AC on defrost?
i figured it out.
first, you have to turn the ignition on and select the Panel only vents button (the far left one) then turn the ignition off and back on while holding the Recirculation and A/C button down for about 7 seconds. the Recirculation light will blink several times then the A/C light will come on and you are set. Also, make sure the temp **** is full cold and the fan **** is off.
now when you select defrost, the A/C will automatically come on (the AC light will come on also) but you can push the A/C button to turn it off, just like earlier Honda model.

Re: how to disable AC on defrost?
The factory makes the A/C come on when you turn on the defroster for a reason:
Among other things, the A/C dehydrates the air (takes all the moisture out) and so your windshield drfrosts that much quicker using the A/C.
Running the A/C on a regular basis is a very good idea for any car and hondas in particular. If the A/C compressor does not get much use, the seals dry out and the refrigidant will leak.

IIRC,
From the factory, if you turn the fan on AND put it in defrost, the A/C will turn on the but the green light on the A/C button does not lit. In order to turn the A/C off, you'll have to press the A/C button twice. Press it the first time, A/C button will be light up. The second time will turn off the A/C.
The OP's procedure on how to turn it off will make the A/C button light up when you turn the fan on and put it on defrost. After completing the procedure, you'll only need to press the A/C button once to turn it off.

Re: how to disable AC on defrost?
Sorry I'm not exactly following. Wouldn't you have to press it 3 times? When you first turn on the defrost, the AC will light, press it once (first time) the light will turn off. Press it again (2nd time) the light will turn on. Then you would you press it again (3rd time) to turn it off.
