R18A1 possibly hydrolocked? Water shot out spark plug holes!
I'm hoping someone will be able to help me here.
I ran through a ginormous puddle yesterday on a street with no street lights. I ran through it pretty hard, but popped it into nuetral the second I realized I was in a huge puddle. The car stalled out. I have a Fujita CAI.
I cleaned the MAF, and took apart the intake. I pulled the spark plugs and cranked the engine to shoot all the water out.
When I pulled the plugs, I noticed oil on the ignition point of the spark plugs.
When I was cranking the engine to shoot water out, it seemed to be turning fine.
When I reattached the spark plugs and tried to turn the engine over, it seems as if the starter motor isn't turning hard enough.
The engine still will not turn over.
Any imput/advice would be great. Please no comments about CAI's or driving through puddles, imput/advice towards the issue only. Thanks.

I was thinking that too, however when I drove through the puddle I was in nuetral at idle. The car stalled out at low-rpm, and if Honda isn't lying about the R18A1 having strong internals, I think I'm OK. The engine seemed to be turning properly without the sparkplugs in. It may just be that I need new spark plugs, but honestly I'm no expert.

This is why i'm against cold air intakes personally, and popping into neutral would have did nothing, the car would still be sucking in water, just not as hard as if your in gear and gassing it.

Im going back to stock tomorrow so I dont need any convincing. Putting it in nuetral to lower the rpms was the idea. Im gonna try changing my oil and spark plugs tomorrow and I'll let you guys know what happens.

Since there was water shooting out, just leave your plugs out over night and let everything dry out. And if it sounds like your engine is having a hard time turning over, are you sure you didn't kill your battery by cranking it over and over and over again. Once everything dries out use a diff battery and try again.
I remember years back when I got my license I drove my brothers cavalier through a deep puddle and it just died. So when we got it home we pulled the plugs and sucked out a bunch of water lol and let it dry over night. the next day it started fine.

Obviously you weren't in neutral fast enough since you have water shooting out of your sockets. :D
Get new sparks and let the engine dry over night (plugs out of course). Happened to a friend of mine in his Integra. Car started but engine never felt the same. Good luck!

I would do what everyone suggested, I know you said you were going back to stock. Is it because your going to try and warranty it?
I ask because its damn near impossible to Hydorlock a stock intake system.

Were you driving with your headlights off too?
Depends on how deep the water is. Up to the lug nuts would do it on most stock cars.
Hydro lock is covered under your comprehensive insurance policy!!

Honda would never warranty a hydro locked motor, since it was a operator error, even if it were al stock and he drove through water they wouldn't, it would however be covered by insurance if he has full coverage

If you had water shooting out the spark plug hole, I would also change your oil and check for water contamination. Not sure if it is possible, but is there a chance you blew your rings out? Since water does not compress, and you did find what in the cylinders, I would think that some of that water had to go somewhere on the compression stroke, specially if you believe you did not bend a rod. Would'nt the rings go before a rod if the water in the cylinders was not too bad?
Just shooting in the dark here.
Good luck.
