Default Clutch components

Hey guys,

I'm getting ready to replace my clutch on my '07 Si. Running at around 140K miles right now.
I found a Sachs clutch kit on Rockauto.com for about $230.
Anyone have any experience with Sachs. I used them back in my VW years.

I was thinking of either cutting the existing flywheel or getting a new stock flywheel.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Hi ,there get a good quality clutch kit like Excedy ,change clutch release bearing ,change master and slave cylinder kits and skim the flywheel only if you must, replace it is as far as possible,it being a duel mass flywheel clutch judder will be experienced if flywheel skimming is not performed correctly

I was thinking of just doing a fine sandpaper run over the flywheel just to get the shine off. Kind of the same as the brake rotors. I got the Sachs plate/disk kit. Only $240 and includes the centering tool, bearing and grease. I have used Sachs before and they do make good parts.
What do you think?

I would definitely NOT use the Sachs clutch.

1. Its a ripoff
2. it won't feel as nice as an Exedy.

I would either buy an Exedy OE replacement or Stage 1. Stage 1 has a more robust disk. I would buy the OEM honda throw out bearing and pilot bearings. And Honda ht urea grease.

Or just buy the whole thing from Honda.

When I bought an Exedy OEM replacement clutch for my 00 Integra, the throwout bearing that was included had the same markings as the old one I took out of the car, so I think they use the same one Honda uses. Not sure if this is the case on the 06+ Civic.

I agree on using Exedy. Me and multiple friends have used their clutches without any issues.

It'd suck to put everything together, only to realize that the flywheel does need to be resurfaced. Last time I had it done, it was $43 at a local transmission shop.

Hey B-Serious,

Why do you say Sachs is a ripoff? Just curious. It's part of ZF which is a reputable German company. Just wondering.

If I do go with Exedy Stage 1 do you know if I have to replace the flywheel as well?

Isn't just giving it a fine sanding enough? I spoke to a couple mechanics that have done plenty of clutch replacements and if the flywheel is not scored they just give it a fine sanding if cutting is not possible.

Thanks

I priced out the HF02 flywheel and the Stage 1 clutch kit at Amazon. $530 shipped.
Not bad.
You guys are making me nervous.
I want to do the job once and do it right. So, it looks like I'm headed to Exedy parts.
