Valvoline Synpower...i guarantee you you will feel a smoother engine. Me and several of my friends have felt it after switching from other synthetics(mobil & castrol)

Can't go wrong with Mobil 1.

Other oils like Redline,Amsoil, and Royal purple etc. are EXPENSIVE. Not worth it in my opinion for a non track car.

I'm guessing this is your daily driver so Mobile 1 would do the job.

This statement tells us you don't know too much about synthetic oils. Those oil's are expensive because you are changing them at conventional oil intervals which is a total waste.

I won't get into detail but I as well as several of my customers go 12,000-15,000 miles without oil changes while extending our fuel economy, improving wear protection and a slight increase in power using Amsoil.

I am installing a bypass filtration kit on mine and another customers vehicle this Monday. 25,000 mile intervals baby, yeah!

used oil analysis typically shows high wear metals up to the first 20,000 miles of the cars life...and that includes several oil changes. if i were you, i'd just use a good dino oil for the first three or four oil changes.

so, after that point, if you really plan on keeping the car for a looong time, i'd look into used oil analysis for this engine and see what kind of intervals people are doing with whatever oil you choose. for this, i'd choose amsoil/redline...or even pennzoil platinum. any of those you should be able to enjoy very extended intervals.

but in all honesty...i really think you'd be fine using a HQ dino oil at the maintenance minder's schedule ; )

on your next oil change, instead of buying your usual oil, go to walmart and purchase a 5 quart jug of valvoline synpower for 20 bucks....

i used this oil on a k24a2, k20z1 and b18b1 and all felt smoother....

here is teh reason why i even tried valvoline, for its price, it is an amazing oil, those results speaks for itself. Yeah, it doesnt outperform amsoil but comes out runner up many times .

I use Motul or Amsoil. I change my oil every 10,000 miles normally. Now if my car does more city driving or lots of cold starts I might change it at 5,000-7,500. The factory advised interval is simply to protect the the engine in all situations.

Top end oils will give your engine more life and more power. In the long run, they cost the same or less. Without a bypass filtration system I wouldn't recommend going much more than that. You also need to learn what to look for and inspect your oil regularly.

Why did you quote me?

Amsoil SSO 0W-30 is good for at least 13,000 miles. I send mine and my customers oil out for analysis therefore I know when exactly to change the oil. Eyeballing oil is really like throing darts blind folded however you can smell coolant of fuel in oil if present, sometimes.

Service Life
AMSOIL Signature Series 0W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil is recommended for extended drain intervals in unmodified(1), mechanically sound(2) gasoline fueled vehicles as follows:
• Normal Service(3) – Up to 35,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
• Severe Service(4) – Up to 17,500 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
• Replace AMSOIL Ea oil filter at the time of oil change up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first (other brands at standard OEM* intervals).
• In all non-gasoline fueled vehicle applications, extend the oil change interval according to oil analysis or follow the OEM* drain interval.

I accidentally deleted the line that said it was good info. The post I quoted is something I have been telling people for many years. Quality oil being changed at the old 3,000 mile interval is silly. The intervals I posted were my personal intervals. This can vary according to what oil I am currently running, age of the engine and a few other things. Mobile 1 Synthetic or something like that, will get 7,500 mile changes. Older engines (long time between rebuilds) will get 5,000-7,500 mile changes.

Eyeballing isn't a great tool, but for people that can't have it analyzed you can look for a few things by look, feel and smell. This won't tell you the condition of the oil's viscosity, but it will tell you if you have an issue arising. We all know it's better to catch an issue early, to avoid catastrophic failure.

As for Amsoil lasting that long, it very much does. I drive my car hard, as many of us do, but care for it too. I should of clarified that Amsoil lasts longer than most oils, even top end stuff. It's fully synthetic, absolutely zero dino product in them. Motul 300V is the same, no dino product, there are some others but I can't recall them all right now. Other synthetics actually still contain some or all dino products. They come from a byproduct of the refining process, mineral oil.

For my FA5, 10,000 miles on oil. and 20,000 miles for the filter. At this interval I am saving money over the cheap and middle of the line stuff. I've considered stretching it longer but feel unsure about it due to the fact I don't have it analyzed. I'm glad you brought it up really, I have been considering it as it's pretty cheap. Any info you could supply would be great. PM me with it if you don't want it out in the open.

An oil analysis pump from Amsoil retails for $27.80 plus tax and shipping.

A UPS Prepaid oil analysis kit retails for $27.85 plus tax and shipping.

Results can be sent by email, postal service and you can log onto the website provided in the kit for your results.

I may be able to offer a lower price thru private communication.

i think he meant that it burns oil.

but it does eat a little bit of oil for the first couple thousand miles and then it stops once your rings really set in.
