Default Alarm goes off while trying to jump a 2006 Honda Civic.

Hey all, just tried to jump my girls 2006 Honda Civic and when I completed the last connection (negative to her ground wire) the alarm system sounded. This seemed a tad peculiar so I disconnected the cables in the reverse order and checked the battery's voltage with my handy multimeter, confirming what I already knew, that the battery was in fact dead (2.7V).

I then had the bright idea to pull the battery from the car and charge it with my Husky portable ac/dc power system (got it to about 10Vs). Unfortunately when I put it back in the alarm fired. While it was beeping I tried to get the engine to turn over, and nearly did, but between the flashing lights and honking the battery drained rather quickly.

Before I try it again I'd like to know if this is normal and if it is (or isn't) why it would happen because it's a wee-bit odd that the cars alarm system would activate when the battery's already low; draining what little power's left in the cell. Also I'd be grateful if someone would explain how to deactivate the alarm system. I have a feeling that if I could just turn it off I'd be able to jump the car. I've tried deactivating it via the keychain, but that didn't work, so I'm assuming there's another way to override the system (or maybe I can just disconnect the power?)

Appreciate any help,
Dustin

ever think that the reason the battery was dead was because the alarm was going off? I know older systems wouldnt shut off until A. someone turned it off or B. the battery died. Secondly it could be that the system resets and defaults to alert? If the system doesnt turn off with the keychain I would disable the alarm another way like disconnecting power. this doesnt sound like a factory alarm.

edit another idea would be disconnecting the the battery from the vehicle and charging it with it not in the vehicle. once its full hook it back up and then mess with it.

I somehow set off the alarm (factory) on my Si when opening the trunk one day. All I did to turn it off was hit the unlock button on my remote. Not sure how it would be done otherwise. Check the manual maybe?

Hey I:_Drive, the car was brought brand-new from the dealership, so it should be the factory alarm. Also, I tried pulling out the battery and charging it outside the car but the alarm system just drained the battery when I put it back in.

when the alarm goes off while ur jumping the car, click the unlock button on the key fob. I did that on a jump and it turns the alarm off. then u go and start the car.
