Re: 2015 Civic Type R
There has to be another reason.
An influence on selling lesser Civic cars, for example. If a modern CTR draws people into dealerships to buy lesser Civics, that'd be a good reason.
Certainly, the existence of the ITR at the time caused a popularity for the brands Honda and Acura.

Unfortunately, we are a drop in the bucket compared to the numbers they would have to sell to make money.
There has to be another reason.

Bait and switch techniques are infuriating at the least. If I walked into my local Honda dealer and saw a Type R on the floor that wasn't for sale, I would wonder why and try for the car.

Do we know where those photos were taken?
That'd help us out.
Looking at the trees, you can't really tell if it's Norway or Northern Ontario!

Arjeplog, Sweden most likely. This area is a hot bed for winter testing among vehicle manufactures.
Since it is near the arctic circle, it is dark there for a good portion of the day, which would explain the additional lights as well.

Re: 2015 Civic Type R
So there are photos floating around the web, claimed to be taken around the manufacturing facility in Ohio. Then it was said the car was once again spotted in New York and someone else is claiming the same photo was taken in Illinois. Now it is claimed the photo that was taken in either New York or Illinois was actually taken in Sweden.
Jalopnik ran with it when it first hit the internet
The New Honda Civic Type R Is Actually In Sweden
Auto Guide shows a completely different car for the US

...all things considered, I am a die hard Honda guy. I am more than excited for the possibility of a Type R in the US. I really hope Honda will not let me (us) down.

Although I'm tickled that they brought a CTR to North America for people to test, I think it was mostly to see how the motor was supposed to behave.
I think it's most like we'll see a version of the motor in a North American Civic-based chassis with the 8 DCT.
Because it's the 8 DCT that's most suited to the motor, I believe it is most likely that the car will be some kind of ILX or "CLX" Coupe, and less likely to be a Civic-badged car. I think the 8 DCT continues to be the sole provenance of the Acura nameplate for another year or two.
That's what I think is most likely, but I also fell for the Swedish picture being taken in New York.
So what the hell do I know.

Re: 2015 Civic Type R
I fell for it too. And I would love the R in a DCT set up. I would almost prefer it, actually. -assuming you are referencing 'dual clutch transmission'.
I was a "manual or nothing" kinda guy...until I took a DCT on the track.
Regardless...
VW GTi
VW Golf R
Focus RS
Subaru STi
...my next choice of car will be difficult

I'll be getting a Focus RS myself. I like what my Focus ST has done for me so far, so, that'll be my next purchase.
I've given up on Honda trying to win me over with laziness and not giving the U.S. consumer that "element of racing" that it gives to the rest of the world.
I have what I want already in the Honda world, and that's enough for me.
It's been a good 20 years, Honda.. thanks for the memories, because I'm not falling for the banana in the tailpipe!.

Re: 2015 Civic Type R
I still have high hopes for a Type R in the US, but it better come in full trim. While I love my Si and feel its a pretty decent car...I want something more from my next car with a aftermarket to support it. Factory aftermarket is somewhat appealing too.
I am leaning towards the Focus RS too. I am hoping that it will have a center diff control similar to what the Subi's offer. Feb 3 we will find out.

Re: 2015 Civic Type R
Honda UK posted this #HondaRedline video on their Facebook a few hours ago.
The release date is March 2

Guess it could be the UK date format, I can't find anything confirming the date either way.

Re: 2015 Civic Type R
"Pretty much nope." :-)
However, I'm still very hopeful.
I'm especially hopeful that we'll see a version of that high output motor in one of our Civic-based cars.
I don't know to hope it's a Civic of some kind or an ILX of some kind.
It's my personal belief that Honda does not have access to the 8 DCT in time, so I'm thinking that the reason that Marysville reconfigured for Civics was because they're going to be making some kind of super-ILX with the 8 DCT that's already on their floor.
That's just a wild intuitive guess, though. I don't know anything.

I don't want to see that engine in an Acura sorry. The Acura line is more of a luxury line then sporty!
In a honda I would be much happier and not with a 8 speed DTC either! I have nothing against it just the 6speed will make it more fun and a pure drivers car.
Honestly they should bring the type-r here they need something to compete with the ST and RS in that market! If they do I'll be buying myself one for sure!

Re: 2015 Civic Type R
My dealer said it's at least a year from them seeing one, once an announcement were to be made.
He's playing his cards close, even though I told him I'd put a deposit down right now lol
So they really don't have much of a clue.
