Re: 2014 Honda Civic Si review
Sorry...it starts to taper off after 30mph. The reason people bitch about EPS is because the rack feels a little "artificial" since it has to send feedback through a series of electric motors/gears. But people who haven't driven EPS cars mistake this for thinking that the racks are sluggish and disconnected.

7400rpms. Like I said, it feels like it wants to keep going. Hondata takes it to 7800-
The engine performs to that point. The b was awesome to 9k, this engine isn't. Meh, not the end of the world unless you are heading to race wars. My $.02

I am dumbfounded how people keep comparing the EM1 to 8th gens when this thread is clearly about the 9th gen. The 9th gen and the 8th gen do not have the same driving experience... I would glady sell my 9th gen to you and go purchase a EM1 or should I be talking about a 8th gen?

I haven't been to a SBR event in some time although the DragCross is just pure badass. Did they start enforcing the decibel level restrictions like the INR did? It caused a lot of us to not be able to race any more... unless stock cars is your thing of course..

My car is loud...never any complaints. People come out to Gingerman with uncapped rotary cars...nobody complains. There are plenty of cars that are fast and quiet, BTW.

This is an open track event at Gingerman. No affiliation with SBR SCCA, if that is what you are referring to.

Man, people in this section assume so much it is insane... I never said fast cars couldn't be quite, but go to an INR event and get decibel tested. A lot of people don't build AutoX specific cars but like to go out and have fun with their modified daily driver. They are being too strict in my opinion, although I do understand why, as venues are not wanting to allow groups to come back due to noise.
I got a SCCA bulletin on the GingerMan race so I just assumed it was a SCCA event. I didn't plan on going so I didn't really read it before I threw it away.

Sounds like you need this: quiet and quite - The difference between those two
B Serious - How did you know?!? Which tampons do you use? Any recommendations or things to look out for? It is my first time and I just wanted advice from a pro.

OMG!!! Thank you soo much for clarification on that! I will definitely tell my spell check. How did I even ever communicate on here without your input. I will definitely be able to speak more eloquently with this new found knowledge.

Re: 2014 Honda Civic Si review
I agree with most of the original post in this thread, I bought my '13 si sedan last June and felt the same way about most of it, I now have over 36k miles as I drive allot of highway trips for work and I average over 30mpg combined on my tracking app.
Things I wish I could have different....
-obviously, better tires
-a little firmer suspension dampening, and more rear bar lol
-a "no sunroof" option would be fantastic, that 70-100# sunroof cassette would lower overall weight as well as the cars center of gravity
-a little more exhaust noise from the factory
That's it, about all I wish I could have had different from the factory.
I like to think that this is the right Si for me now, at age 42 with kids, but I wouldn't have liked it 10+ years ago when I wanted a more raw or visceral driving experience. These days I can appreciate a fun drive with good functioning Bluetooth as much as I can enjoy another 400rpm on the tach.
I'd like to see a club racer option for the Si, similar to some of the other manufacturers running in different racing series. Same car with no roof, no AC or radio, bilsteins or Koni's with a decent spring and bigger bars, and a light set of 17 x 8 rims/tires.

Re: 2014 Honda Civic Si review
After having my TSX (lowered on Tein SA coilovers and TL-S wheels with Michelin Super Sports), I can 100% appreciate a low key car for daily driving. I love that it has modern features, nav, a good stereo, its quiet, it rides like silk, but still can get down a little bit. That being said...my TSX could never be my only car. I think I would be even less inclined than that to use the Si as my only car, though.
If I had to have only 1 car and continue to live in IL, my choices (in order of 'most want' to 'will deal with'):
-E46 M3/BR-Z (tie)
-E90 M3
-EVO 9 MR
-STi (06+)
I've always had at least 1 RWD car. AWD would be a compromise. I can't do FWD for my one and only car. I couldn't have even done my ITR as my only car (even if we remove the theft/snow factor).
Just an opinion since we're speaking subjectively. I am starting to like the new Si...and the Si has always been a "middle ground" car which bridges a gap between standard model and type R. It would be cool if they actually brought a CTR to the states with the attention to detail and small "special" pieces that type R's have always had. Hopefully, they don't just slather a big layer of turbo power on an Si and call it a "CTR". Boooooring.

Re: 2014 Honda Civic Si review
As mentioned, I was able to take my car to the local road course, Gingerman Raceway, last Friday evening for a night of test and tune. Mind you, this car is 100% stock, including all fluids and the mega annoying Continental Pro Contacts, a grand touring tire. I didn't play with tire pressures, remove any dead weight (spare tire, etc) ...just pulled up, put my helmet on and went out. It turned 2000 miles on the track
I'm not going to lie, in the back of my mind I was somewhat prepared to be let down by this car. If you read any magazine article, it will say how horrible the car is when compared to other vehicles and it leaves so much to desire. After driving it, I will say that (as I have mentioned in previous posts) this car is super under-tired, but I still feel it's very capable. The brakes were baked by about the second lap, which I was fully expecting and when I came off the track the rotors sounded like Harley pipes cracking and cooling down. I never fully lost brakes, but by the end of the 20min session, it was ready to come off the track. It does push a bit into corners, but that could easily be helped. Traction control saved me a few times, I didn't turn it off. There were a few times I could have went up a gear but I would have had to down shift as soon as I got the gear changed. With a car like the GTi and paddles, I would have shifted gaining a few more mph. Heal tow shifting seems harder to do in my driving shoes than in my everyday walking/hiking boots with this car.
For now, it's a matter of driving the car, waiting on old man winter to swing by for a few months and next spring, the car will get a few goodies. It doesn't need much. If I can get to an auto-x before the snow flies, I will.
Here is my run with Harrys Lap Timer. Don't mind the Ford Racing School Mustang note. I didn't quite get a chance to remove that prior to heading out.
By the way, did anyone see the new R that Honda released details on today? I want it!

If you would of turned off traction control you might of been able to up shift instead of not...
Also you don't know the car from just one track event with it you could easily become more use to it and make the adjustments needed. DCT is an easy solution to not knowing your car lol
Alignment would of also waken the car up a little and the stock tune is horrible Flashpro would make a world of difference even with the engine stock!

Re: 2014 Honda Civic Si review
I drive different vehicles and do tire testing for a living and I'm pretty good at judging things and know when something sucks. This car does not suck, it just needs a few minor tweaks to be great. These small changes are all very well within reach for the average consumer.
I agree with what you said. The car has 2000 miles on it and I wasn't about to go 100% on the track for the first time. This run is a good baseline though.
As I said, its very capable and has things that can be tweaked. I didn't buy the car to be a project, but minor changes will take place.
If this car sucked, I would have no problem telling you it sucks.

The car would push less with traction control off.
Looking at the lap...those tires seem awful lol. Good job on the 100% stock baseline. Now buy some tires and brake pads!

Re: 2014 Honda Civic Si review
Winter is coming and a winter wheel and tire package is going to happen first.
I am thinking some Sparco Terra wheels with Bridgestone Blizzak W80 tires for the winter rally civic look.
