Default 2006 Civic/Acura CSX Issue, EDIT: Video added

Hi everyone I drive a 2006 Acura csx, same engine as the civic.

This is the issue, wondering if someone can help:

When the vehicle is started, there is this loud whistling sound coming from the engine compartment, right where the serpentine/drive belt is. I am unable to pin point where exactly it is coming from, but that area is quite loud, and it whistles.

When the car warms up, it is not as loud, but you can still faintly hear it. It started doing it a week ago, and now its quite annoying.

Any ideas what could be the issue? Not sure if this is something common that would happen. I can probably take a video of the noise, tomorrow, but decided to give this a try first.

Thank you for your help.

Edit: The noise is on when the fan and a/c are off. It is not the intake sucking in colder air either. Could it be the belt? Maybe pullies are bad? Alternator pulley?

If it s whistling sound or whining kinda of sounds could be a pulley bearing as 97emsedan mentioned.

Thats what i thought. Best way to test which one it is, is to remove the drive belt and wiggle them left right or spin manually? What would you suggest?

Thanks again.

Also not sure if you guys would know, but ordering these pulley bearings, I would assume they would be the same as 2006 civic regular or Si bearing.

It depends actually... as both the CSX and the CSX Type-S have a K20 they aren't the same engine. The Type-S has the same engine as the Si which is the K20Z3 but the base model CSX has a K20Z2.

But if memory serves me right the pulleys bearing should be the same for both engines on the CSX.

Most likely they are, its easier to order online for a Si, as compared to a csx.

Anyways, do you have any experience in checking which pulley bearing is going out, do I just spin it manually and see if it makes noise, do i wiggle it left/right to see if its loose?

You could manually spin it... but when my idle pulley went out I just popped the hood and listened and was able to identify it.

You can order from torontohondaparts.com. I think the site is down for now but they will be up soon. You could maybe call them.

Here is the noise that I am talking about

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBkz...ature=youtu.be

I thought it was the pulley bearing that aligns the belt, as you can see in the video its brand new that was making to noise but it was not. I spun the other one, the top one and it looked good, did not wiggle left or right. Any ideas?

Saw the video. Nice job. Try wiggling the alternator pulley. If not that then I am not sure. It would be a matter of trial and error, but one of those is going pear shaped...

Thanks. Thankfully it wasnt the alternator pulley. Ended up being the idler pulley, the top most one. Now its nice a quiet. Thanks for all your help.
