Default 08 Civic Si 2.0L 4cy V-tec AC/Overheating problem

(I also posted this in the All Engine section)

Hey all,

Just want to say thanks for your help in advance. As a newly graduated student with loans and debt getting my car fixed is the last thing I have the money for right now and appreciate your help with a disgnosis as I have already spent 300$ trying to fix this issue.

Two months ago my car started to have problems. The first thing to go was the air conditioning (blowing out hot air when turned on AC or no AC). I had more 134A put in a few months before but it only was a temporary fix.

I broght it into Advance Auto Parts to purchase more 134A. The gentleman there helped me gague the amount in the car and said adding more was not necessary. He said it might need to be flushed (not his exact words) out or something?

Next thing to happen was the car would start to overheat. Instead of staying consistant (at 50% on the gague), it would shoot up to 2/3 or 3/4. If the car was in neutral and not moving (dont know if its the wind helping cool) then it would almost get to the very top. I attempted to put more coolant in, but wasn't sure how much to put in. This very shortly fixed the issue before it started to do the same thing.

I then brought my car into the shop. They fixed a spark plug that was out (I feel this was unrelated to the issue as I could feel one of the four cylenders prior to this not kicking all the time). They also went on to tell me it just needed more coolant and 134a. I was happy due to the cheap fix and picked my car up. AC and heat problems funcitoned fine until the AC went out two weeks later and only blows hot air again. The overheating of the engine started shortly after.

I don't believe there are any check engine lights on as of now. I can only drive my car short distances and hope that it does not overheat. Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem? Or hear of a situation like this happening before?

Try thermostat and if not that do compression test to check head gasket

And by Thermostat you mean do this?
http://www.wikihow.com/Tell-if-Your-...s-Stuck-Closed

But would that explain the AC shooting out hot air?

And by compression test you mean this?

Thank you for your response.
