07 Civic Hybrid Oil Change

Re: 09 Civic Hybrid Oil Change
On the Civic Hybrid 09 the manual recommends 0W-20. A quick look a the oils in the store reveals only Mobil1 has the 0W 20 (and pretty pricey at about $ 7 per quart).
Does this car come with Mobil1 from the factory?

Honda has their own oil. The only car I know from Honda/Acura that comes stock with Mobil 1 is the RDX.

Thank you for the great write up.
Do you know the reason for the bottom cover. Is it purely cosmetic or is it for some functional reason such as improved aerodynamics, protection of some key component etc.?

The paneling is for improved efficiency of air flow beneath the car. My car has some paneling also, but not to the extent of the hybrid.

Re: 07 Civic Hybrid Oil Change
as a tech at a honda dealer i please tell other people dont bring your car in when it has a maintenance reminder and you almost put 3k on it and the oil life says 60-70 percent.......15 percent people...technology has changed...oil life percentage reflects how someone drives....save the money and wait a little longer

Re: 07 Civic Hybrid Oil Change
Ok, so I've got my HCH on jackstands, and I have the panel dropped down, hitting the floor. So now I want to know how in the name of Zeus' butthole did you get the drain pan to sit flat while draining the oil??? Its painfully obvious that the panel is in the way...

Re: 07 Civic Hybrid Oil Change
Ok, so I had to go MacGyver on this. When the wife wasnt lookin, I took one of those thin flexible cutting boards and wrapped a rubber band around it to give it a U shape. I then used it to direct the flow of the oil back to the drain pain towards the front of the car.
So I dont know whats more ridiculous. The fact that Honda designed it this way or the fact that in well over 2 years, no one seemed to mention this minor detail.
Already ordered a Fumoto valve with nipple so all I need to do next time is connect a tube and drain...

Re: 07 Civic Hybrid Oil Change
Any reason to do the oil change yourself on the Hybrid? I used to do it myself on a Toyota Camry. Just enjoyed it (in the summer months), and saved a few bucks as as student.
Now-a-days with the extra effort of trying to get the crazy honda oil (0w-20), risk of breaking those little clips, and then having to recycle the oil and filter myself, it seems like a lot of time...
I guess the $ adds up, but any other reasons why to DYI the oil on Hybrid?
Thanks all!

Re: 07 Civic Hybrid Oil Change
Thanks!
BTW. I really do appreciate the post with all the photos. I recently had one of the screws come out and part of the under panel was hanging down. Luckily it didnt get damaged before I was able to get it in and have the $4 "screw" replaced!
Would have saved me here if I knew more DIY.
PLease keep posting any DIY for Hybrids. There are fewer owners around so fewer posts.
Many thanks again all!

Re: 07 Civic Hybrid Oil Change
I have to do an oil change on my friends car which is an 06 Civic Hybrid.
I am going to use 0-20 Mobil1.
Usually on my BMW's I replace one quart of oil with 1 quart of Lucas Synthetic Stabilizer.
Is that recommended on the hybrid?
Can it hurt?
Will it benefit?
Since it's only 3 quarts, how much Lucas should be used?
My thoughts would be about 3/4 of a quart.
Also, I'd like your opinion on Lucas Synthetic Stabilizer?
I've used it for years on several BMW's of mine.

Aslo changing the engine oil out at 1500 miles is a joke. This guy (Blue Hybrid) says he tests engine /oil viscocity for a living and yet he uses color as an indication of oil life. LoL.

Re: 07 Civic Hybrid Oil Change
Probably. Possibly longer, as the hybrid vehicle does not use the ICE as much. Just use the vehicles oil life monitor. I guarantee you will NEVER harm your engine if you stick to the oil life monitor's schedule.

Re: 07 Civic Hybrid Oil Change
Hi everyone! I recently started to help my friend do oil changes and CVT fluid changes on her 07 Civic Hybrid. The two clips and two bolts that are used to secure this under cover panel are broken or missing. (One dying clip and one bolt are holding it together!)
I've searched long and hard for this, but I couldn't find the answer. None of the Honda parts website shows a good diagram for it. Not even Honda's eStore.
So, my question is, what are the Honda part numbers for the retaining clips and bolts for this undercover panel?
Thanks in advance!

2007 Hybrid Oil Change
You will find a large plastic panel underneath the car. You will need the small screwdriver and the 10mm wrench. Remove the plastic cover in the picture below. Circled in blue are the Retaining Clips, Circled in red are the 10mm blots. Remove them
Here are the fasteners after they have been removed

Re: 07 Civic Hybrid Oil Change
Awesome write up..thanks. Unfortunately after removing the driver side 10mm bolt and 2 retaining clips, I discovered the passenger side 10mm bolt is freaking stuck somehow. It was not tightly screwed in so I thought it was just a little loose, but after going round and round I realized its stuck.
I'm not sure how it's stuck. I'm not too sure if I want to cut the plastic panel tab that uses is secured by that bolt..
