Default % What will void my Warranty? The GRAND Warranty FAQ THREAD.

This topic seems to be brought up at least once a day so I'm hoping we can isolate all of the the questions/concerns/comments about warranty issues into this thread.

First of all warranty issues are all unique. A lot of it comes down to your dealership's service department, how they feel that day, how you approach them and what exactly the problem is.

Keep in mind that all service departments have their own of dealing with warranty work so your experience may differ.

"what will void my warranty?"

The answer is nothing will really void your entire warranty. Specific parts/modifications will void the warranty on existing OEM equipment that directly correlates to the aftermarket piece. But one modification will not void the warranty on every single portion of the car!

So lets say you wanna install a flux-capacitor cold air intake. You do so and next thing you know your rear strut is blown out. Will the strut be covered under warranty? Yes.
Lets say a week later your mass air flow sensor throws a cel and the MAF is no longer operable. Chances are warranty will NOT cover the replacement of the MAF because the intake you just installed is more than likely to be at fault for the failure. As mentioned its possible that your dealership will replace the maf even with a CAI installed but its pretty unlikely.

Another example: Install springs/coilovers and you get a CEL pointing to an 02 sensor... will it be covered under warranty? Yes. You later notice abnormal tire wear, excess noise in the cabin and a pull to the right, will any of this be addressed under warranty? NO.

Once you understand the "concept" its pretty obvious how warranties work on most new cars. Be careful and take the right steps to insure that you're not screwing yourself over. I would never recommend warranty fraud but keeping your stock parts is always a good idea.

Please feel free to add comments or questions and call me out if you notice anything that doesn't sound right. Trying to make this forum have a little more reference material to avoid redundant threads.

Most service departments will perform whatever works need to be done if it is warranty work but not being an ******* helps the process and may infact help you out with "goodwill" warranty work down the road. That is warranty work for people who are out of warranty whom the dealership look at as good customers.

Granted at some dealerships you have to be an ******* to get anything done but typically you'll be treated better if you are courteous.

Cities is a dope CD not as good as their last tho

If you do it yourself and totally mess it up it will not be covered, but if you do it right there should be no problem, you might as well get it done at honda if your worried about warranty issues on a oil change, imo

i've just been hearing a lot of horror stories about dealerships and oil changes. i figure i might as well do it myself, but at the same time i don't want to void my warranty. i was under the impression that you had to take your car to the dealership for scheduled maintenance or your warranty would be voided.
